Sunday On Stage

When: Sunday, November 8, 2009 from 3-6 p.m.
Where: At several theatres and performing arts centers throughout Denver

The first weekend of Denver Arts Week comes to a close with Sunday On Stage, a celebration of the Mile High City's vibrant performing arts world. Drama, comedy, modern dance, music and more will all be offered all day long at downtown and neighborhood theatres, often for free or discounted prices. Look behind the scenes at how productions come together, and learn about actors' and dancers' crafts during workshops. Whether you're a dedicated Denver theatre patron or a newcomer to the scene, Sunday On Stage promises to be a Denver Arts Week highlight.

Festivities on Sunday, November 8, include:

  • Denver Performing Arts Complex Open House: The Complex presents a special “open house” featuring live entertainment, behind-the-scenes tours, costume and set displays, prizes and one-day-only ticket discounts for future performances by the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Colorado Ballet, Colorado Symphony and Opera Colorado. Hurry, offer valid only while supplies last! The Denver Center Theatre Company is offering special ticket offers for Absurd Person Singular, A Christmas Carol, Girls Only, Little House on the Prairie and Spring Awakening. Offer valid while supplies last and for select performances.
  • Colorado Homegrown Tales at the Byers-Evans House Museum: Join Colorado Homegrown Tales for a theatrical reading of two short stories from the Rocky Mountain News Dozen on Denver series published last fall in commemoration of Denver's 150th year
  • Ballet Nouveau Colorado and Lighthouse Writers Workshop: Collaborative performance at 2 p.m. for the special price of $52.80 for two seats at the Performing Arts Complex at Pinnacle Charter School
  • The Colorado Chamber Players presents a delectable program of Latino composers at the Museo de las Americas, free from 2-3 p.m.
  • Aurora Fox Theatre: Vaudevillian melodrama by The Handsome Devils, November 7-8
  • Buntport Theatre: MICROWORLD Part 1 production, November 6-8
  • Facing June Productions: Calamity, a rollicking two-person show featuring Calamity Jane, November 8, 12 and 13
  • Bovine Metropolis: 2-or-1 tickets* to On the Spot Improv Comedy for all ages
  • Creole Celebration: Dance workshop by Friends of Cajun and Zydeco Music and Dance with food, fun and live music at Mercury Café
  • Mizel Arts & Culture Center: Performance for young audience by sing-along superstars, Judy and David, and Daniel Asa Rose book discussion
  • Mizel Museum: Art and Architecture of Babi Yar Park at Babi Yar Park

What is Denver Arts Week?
Denver Arts Week is a weeklong celebration, highlighting the city's visual and performing arts, taking place at seven neighborhood art districts, dozens of theaters and museums, and more than 100 art galleries. The event is organized by VISIT DENVER to help draw local and national attention to the cultural renaissance that Denver is experiencing – a renaissance that led Sunset Magazine to proclaim: "The Mile High City is remaking itself as a world capital of art and architecture."
