The Democratic National Convention just wrapped up, but the Mile High City is already playing host to another major national event. From September 16 through September 20, 2008, Denver will host the Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s convention. The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Forces of the United States. The Honor was created by Congress in 1861 and the medal is bestowed by the President of the United States. Since the Civil War, more than 39 million men and women have answered the call to serve. Of those, only 3463 served with such uncommon valor that they were presented the Medal of Honor.
While many of the events during the convention are private, there will be several opportunities for the public to join in honoring these men during this historic occasion in Denver.
