DENVER ARTS WEEK – 9 DAYS OF ALL THINGS ART

The fourth annual Denver Arts Week (DAW), Nov. 5-13, 2010, will be a nine-day celebration of all things art in the Mile High City, a total of more than 200 events at a wide variety of art galleries, museums, theaters and concert halls, with many of the events free or at discount prices.

 

“Denver’s national reputation as an arts center has grown enormously in the past few years with the city adding new museums, performing-arts venues and art district neighborhoods,” said Richard Scharf, president & CEO of VISIT DENVER, the primary organizer of DAW.  “Denver Arts Week is a celebration of this growth, and an opportunity for locals and visitors to get out and see all that the Mile High City has to offer in the arts.”

 

The opening weekend begins with “Know Your Arts First Friday Arts Walk” on Nov. 5, a “super-sized” version of the monthly First Friday art walks with more than 100 galleries participating in eight neighborhood arts districts.  The arts celebration also includes “Night at the Museums,” a Saturday evening (Nov. 6) in which 18 Denver area museums will stay open late between 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for free. Throughout the week, “Denver’s On Stage” shines a spotlight on the Mile High City’s performing-arts world, with drama, comedy, dance, music and opera specials, with great deals available at www.Denver2for1Tix.com.

 

“Denver Arts Week offers families an opportunity to become acquainted with the arts,” Scharf states.  “During Night at the Museums, families can visit some of the top museums and some of the lesser known gems, all for free.  There’s even free parking at Cherry Creek Shopping Center and free shuttle buses that go to most of the museums.”

KNOW YOUR ARTS FIRST FRIDAY

Nov. 5, 2010

Celebrate opening night of Denver Arts Week in Denver's creative art districts, with special events planned in galleries, museums, and restaurants.  Eight of Denver’s art district neighborhoods will have a special First Friday in which more than 100 art galleries provide refreshments, as well as music and special artist events.  Additionally, many of the galleries are featuring Denver Arts Week specials that begin at the “mile high” price of $52.80 (Denver is 5,280 feet above sea level).

 

SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE MUSEUMS

Nov. 6, 2010

Night at the Museums, the Mile High City’s version of the popular La Nuit des Musées event in Paris, offers a chance to discover Denver’s greatest cultural attractions, all in one night, all for FREE.  From 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., 18 museums, including the Denver Art Museum, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, and Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, are opening their doors for this once-a-year event.  FREE shuttles will depart from the Cherry Creek Shopping Center and the Denver Art Museum starting at 5 p.m.

 

DENVER’S ON STAGE

Nov. 5-13, 2010

Shining a spotlight on Denver’s vibrant performing arts community every day during Arts Week, Denver’s On Stage offers the chance to experience drama, comedy, dance, music and more, often for discounted prices.  From the Denver Performing Arts Complex (the second largest such complex in the U.S.) to intimate neighborhood theaters, go behind the scenes to see how productions come together, and learn about actors’ and dancers’ crafts during workshops.

The Denver Arts Week Scavenger Hunt offers the chance to attend this citywide celebration’s coolest events and be entered to win big prizes, including the grand prize of Southwest Airlines airfare – a great opportunity to bring family or friends to Denver to explore First Friday and a myriad of year-round art offerings.  Additional prizes include gift certificates to some of Denver’s best restaurants and hotels, as well as tickets to hot attractions and events. ·         Get a photo of at least six of the listed activities during Denver Arts Week

·         Post pictures to VISIT DENVER’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/visitdenver. Note: Participants must “Like” VISIT DENVER’s page in order to post a photo. Be sure to include the name and location of the task completed in the caption. Example: “Here I am, dancing with The Dancers! (No. 5).”
