FINE DINING MEETS COLORADO CRAFT BEER DURING DENVER BEER FEST 2010

08/12/2010

Because great beer deserves great food, Denver’s cuisine scene is getting into the Denver Beer Fest (Sept. 10-19, 2010) spirit with a host of special events aimed at satisfying both beer aficionados and foodies. See below for a few highlights:

  • Five Course Tasting Menu, Panzano ($55/person) Sept. 10-19
One of Denver’s most raved-about foodie destinations, Panzano’s exclusive Denver Beer Fest menu pairs five Colorado-brewed beers with five delectable courses, including:
    • Calamari Fritti: Spicy calamari with a spicy chili aioli, paired with Oskar Blues’ Mama’s Little Yella Pils
    • Rosmarino Tagliatelle: rosemary pasta with cranberries, toasted pine nuts and herbed goat cheese, with a lemon emulsion, paired with Avery’s White Rascal Belgian-Style Wheat Ale
    • Melanzane: lightly breaded eggplant, over rustic pomodoro, fresh basil, goat cheese and balsamic vinegar reduction, paired with Odell’s Levity Amber Ale
    • Agnello all’ Puttanesca: grilled house-made lamb sausage with creamy polenta and a Puttanesca sauce, paired with Great Divide’s Denver Pale Ale
    • Latte di Birra: a milk stout float made with chocolate espresso gelato, salted cashews, and Left Hand Brewery’s Milk Stout
  • Avery Beer Dinner, Flagstaff House ($78/person) Sept. 14, 6:30 p.m.
Boulder’s beloved Avery Brewing Co. teams up with the prestigious Flagstaff House in the Rocky Mountain foothills for a night of perfectly prepared food from master chef Mark Monette, complementing a selection of Avery’s finest brews. The menu will include:
    • Alaskan Halibut with arugula, roasted garlic, Nicoise olives, and roasted bell peppers, in a white truffle balsamic vinaigrette, paired with Joe’s Premium American Pilsner
    • Crispy Seared Duck Breast with Colorado peaches, paired with Sui Generis. Avery made only 100 cases of this complex brew, a blend of beers aged in many different barrels that previously held Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, port and bourbon
    • Kurobuta Pork Cheeks, braised in Avery’s Out of Bounds Stout, with potato puree, braised greens, and Hakuri turnips, paired with Brabant Barrel Aged Zinfandel
    • Mephistopheles Mud Pie, paired with Mephaddict – Avery’s Mephistopheles’ Belgian Imperial Stout blended with a coffee toddy

Additional offers include:

  • The Colorado Beer Ice Cream Fest, Sweet Action Ice Cream
This eclectic S. Broadway ice cream shop will transform Colorado craft beers (including brews from New Belgium, Great Divide, and Ska Brewing) into mouthwatering ice cream flavors during Denver Beer Fest. Last year’s offerings included Double Chocolate Stout, White Chocolate Raspberry Ale, ESB Oreo, Coffee Yeti Stout and Oatmeal Stout, each with unique, hoppy overtones blending with creamy sweetness.
  • Culinary Connectors Top Restaurant Tour
Spend an afternoon going behind the scenes at several of Denver’s top restaurants – Fruition, Jonesy’s Eat Bar, The Village Cork (Sept. 11), Steuben’s, Beatrice & Woodsley, and Colt & Gray (Sept. 18) – for two multi-hour beer-and-food pairing experiences.  At Jonesy’s, don’t miss the charred Palisade peach bread pudding paired with Great Divide Oak-Aged Yeti Imperial Stout. $99/person.
  • Meet The Brewer Nights, Duo Denver
This Highlands eatery prides itself on using fresh, locally grown ingredients, so it makes sense that it is celebrating Denver Beer Fest with fresh, locally brewed beer, hosting three “meet the brewer” nights. Rub elbows with genuine beer wizards and enjoy brews by Great Divide (Sept. 13), Ska Brewery (Sept. 14), and Oskar Blues (Sept. 15), paired with Duo’s delectable appetizers, including: house-smoked wings with a sherry glaze and scallions; grilled corn served with smoked tomato basil and jalapeno cilantro butters; and stuffed summer squash filled with onions, pecorino cheese and tomato caper sauce. $15/person.
  • Breakfast and Beer, Capitol Hill Bed & Breakfast
Battle the Beer Fest hangover – with beer for breakfast.  This hidden gem B&B will offer Wynkoop Brewing Co.’s Railyard Ale to its guests along with homemade breakfasts each morning between 7:30 am to 9:30 am.
  • Ten Days of All Things Beer, Dixons Downtown Grill
Breakfast, lunch and dinner, all with a Denver Beer Fest twist.  Dixons’ special menu includes: Car Bomb Pancakes (buttermilk short stack with Guinness-infused maple syrup, Irish whipped cream, and Jameson whipped butter); Sunshine Wheat “Sunion Rings” (onion rings soaked in New Belgium’s Sunshine Wheat beer, battered and fried, served with beer mustard dipping sauce); and the Brat Burger (quarter-pound bratwurst patty, topped with sauerkraut and beer-cheddar sauce.

More events are being added on a daily basis. The Web site, www.DenverBeerFest.com, is a one-stop shop for all things beer, including information on Denver beer events sponsored by some of the more than 400 breweries coming to town for the Great American Beer Festival, Sept. 16-18.

Attendees can receive great deals on their phones during Denver Beer Fest by texting “Denver Beer Fest” to 32075.
