MEDIA ADVISORY: IT’S CLAY-TIME AT THE DRY ICE FACTORY AND MAYOR MICHAEL B. HANCOCK IS TAKING THE WHEEL

WHAT:
Mayor Michael B. Hancock will try his hand at the potter’s wheel at the Ice Cube Gallery to inaugurate the sixth annual Denver Arts Week (Nov. 2-10). Other speakers include: First Lady and Night at the Museums Honorary Chair Mary Louise Lee; Arts & Venues Executive Director Kent Rice; VISIT DENVER President & CEO Richard Scharf; and Starz Denver Film Festival Director Britta Erickson. Additional significant leaders in the arts community will also attend.

Ice Cube Gallery in the Dry Ice Factory

Directions/Parking: There is plenty of parking on the street or in the parking lot on the south side of building. Then proceed to the Ice Cube Gallery’s main entrance on Walnut Street.

WHY:
Every November, the Mile High City shines a spotlight on its thriving arts world during Denver Arts Week (Nov. 2-10, 2012), a nine day celebration of the arts that bring attention to the city’s vibrant creative community. This year’s event kicks off with Know Your Arts First Friday, followed by Night at the Museums on Saturday, November 3, in which 22 museums will stay open until 10 p.m. for free. Throughout the week there are more than 300 art events from theatrical performances to the Starz Film Festival. Many of these opportunities are free or at heavily discounted rates, including tickets and even artwork for sale at the Mile High price of $52.80. Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock will try his hand (for the first time) at throwing a pot on a potter’s wheel in the huge art studio of the Dry Ice Factory in the River North (RiNo) Art District to kick off the Mile High City’s celebration of the arts – Denver Arts Week.
