05/15/2012
Downtown Denver will be transformed into a massive, free rock concert on Saturday, May 26, 2012 when 25 bands take to five stages for Concerts for Kids third annual Denver Day of Rock. Spend a rockin’ weekend in Downtown Denver with discounted hotel packages.

The Day of Rock festivities jam along the 16th Street Mall, Denver’s mile-long pedestrian promenade, from 2:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the first day of Memorial Day weekend. The free music festival includes five stages located just off the 16th Street Mall on Arapaho, in Skyline Park, at Champa, Curtis, and Welton. Dozens of gourmet food vendors and multiple beer gardens will be serving delicious food and drink throughout the day. In 2011, more than 100,000 people attended the free music event, making it the city’s largest one-day music festival.

Performing this year is a line-up of national and local acts including: TOTO, Toad the Wet Sprocket, The Samples, Fishbone, Something Underground, John Common and Blinding Flashes of Light, Go Home Joe, Jeff Brinkman, O-Tones Brass Band, Offbeat Revolution, Lee Avenue, Alicia Witt, Tracksuit Wedding, Tatanka, Smack Thompson, Strange Americans, Jet Edison, WhiteWater Ramble, Amanda Capper, Air Dubai, Paa Kow’s By All Mean’s Band, Dwayne Dopsie & The Zydeco Hellraisers, The Railbenders, Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band, Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers. See the official performance schedule.

In addition to the music festival, the Downtown Denver Arts Festival features 125 Colorado artists who exhibit and sell their work all weekend long (May 25-28). Meet the artists and join the 150,000 people at this show throughout the holiday weekend. Even more activities, including sporting events, parades and fireworks, can be found on the VISIT DENVER website.

“Denver’s music and arts scene come together with Denver Day of Rock on 16th Street and the Downtown Denver Arts Festival, kicking-off the summer outdoor festival season in Mile High style,” says Richard Scharf, president & CEO of VISIT DENVER, The Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Denver Day of Rock helps raise much-needed funds for programs and services that support the health and education of children. Funds are raised through sponsorships and from food, beverage sales, and the sale of promotional items on the day of the event. Moneys raised go to support more than 40 local non-profit organizations through Metro Denver.

Denver Day of Rock is sponsored by Newmont Mining, Lockton Inc., Sage Hospitality, Waste Connections of Colorado Inc., Oakwood Homes, Milender White Construction Co., PCL Construction Leaders, CBIZ, Southwest Airlines, VISIT DENVER, Downtown Denver Partnership, Downtown Denver Business Improvement District, and the City of Denver.
