Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant

Where: 1525 Blake St., Denver
The Style: The Rio Grande prides itself on its laid-back “siesta” attitude. Their LoDo location offers a comfortable patio, friendly service and a casual atmosphere, not to mention their famous margaritas, available on the rocks or – for those hot summer evenings – frozen. Make a date with friends and kick back at the Rio Grande.
Recommended: No matter what the season is, the Rio Grande’s guacamole is always made fresh from real avocados, never from frozen pulp. Order the Guacamole Ensalada: fresh, ripe avocados served with garlic and lime on a bed of lettuce, tomatoes and cheddar. Muy deliciosa!

Casa Bonita Restaurant

Where: 6715 W. Colfax Ave., Lakewood
The Style: This legendary Denver locale isn’t just a restaurant – it’s an experience like no other! The inside of Casa Bonita is designed to look like a magical Mexican Village at night – keep an eye out for cliff divers, escaping gorillas, cowboy shootouts, lost caves and caverns. Casa Bonita also features Mexican dancers, strolling mariachis and a fun amusement arcade packed with games.
Recommended: Feeling famished? Order the All-you-can-eat Beef or Chicken Deluxe Dinner, with a crispy taco, two beef or chicken enchiladas, Mexican rice, refried beans, guacamole and sour cream.

Hacienda Colorado

Where: 4100 E. Mexico Dr., Denver
The Style: Hacienda Colorado serves traditional Mexican dishes with a twist – they call it “Rocky Mountain Mex.” The vibe of the restaurant is such that you can dress up or dress down – it works equally well as a date night spot or a family-friendly restaurant. Relax by a fire on the patio, take a table inside, or sit at the bar with the regulars.
Recommended: Smother your entrée with any of Hacienda’s famous sauces, including spicy pork green chile, roasted jalapeno sauce and tomatillo.

Sam’s No. 3

Where: 1500 Curtis St., Denver
The Style: A longtime Downtown Denver breakfast and lunch staple, Sam’s isn’t your typical Mexican joint. It’s an old-fashioned diner with plenty of old-fashioned diner dishes – “comfort food with an attitude” they call it. But Sam’s also serves its own distinctive brand of south-of-the-border food, dubbed on the menu “Mr. Sam’s Mexi-Rado Grub.” Breakfast burritos, huevos rancheros, smothered burritos and more spicy treats have made this unlikely spot a favorite for Denver’s Mexican food lovers.
Recommended: Try the Mexican Steak, a grilled six-ounce piece of beef served with chili, tomatoes, onions and flour tortillas.

Tamayo

Where: 1400 Larimer St., Denver
The Style: A favorite among Denver’s in-the-know foodies, Tamayo offers a contemporary and creative spin on traditional Mexican cuisine. The restaurant is located in the ultra-chic Larimer Square – one of the city’s hippest areas – and its décor is appropriately stylish. Don’t miss chilling out on Tamayo’s rooftop lounge, with spectacular mountain views and specialty cocktails.
Recommended: The Alambre de Lomo is a truly unique gourmet dish: beef tenderloin, chorizo,  bacon,  red bell pepper, grilled cactus,  mushroom , avocado,  queso gouda and  tomatillo-chile morita salsa.
