Dixit Dominus: Music by G. F. Handel (Estes Park)

Mar 26, 2017

G.F. Handel, composer of the all-time choral favorite Messiah, lived in Rome in his early 20s where he was highly influenced by Italian music styles. In 1707, while opera was temporarily banned in the Papal States, Handel wrote cantatas, oratorios, and sacred music including two dramatic showpieces, Dixit Dominus and Laudate pueri Dominum, each an extraordinary tour-de-force for chorus and orchestra. Performing with period instruments, Seicento Baroque Ensemble presents these two works, conducted by Artistic Director, Evanne Browne, and featuring sopranos Amanda Balestrieri and Kathryn Radakovitch, tenor Todd Teske, and guest mezzo soprano Barbara Hollinshead from the Washington, D.C., area.
