Just over a century ago, the railroad opened the San Luis Valley to the rest of the world by laying track across its borders. Today, the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad whisks passengers off to remote parts of the San Luis Valley, and those just beyond those borders, still wild and unspoiled by the last 100 years.

Alamosa County is one of six counties in south-central Colorado's San Luis Valley. Surrounded by stunning 14,000-foot peaks, more than 50,000 residents share the love of clear blue skies, outdoor recreation, and unparalleled vistas.

Round Mountain Institute, Inc. was founded in 2002. A decade earlier the land at the base of Round Mountain began its transformation into an ecologically friendly farm. Through the years over a thousand people have toured the ever-changing landscape. It all began with a yurt, then the first straw bale house in Gunnison County and finally with a partially straw bale solar greenhouse. The past 12 years have seen the gardens grow to over 2-acres of ecologically cultivated vegetables, flowers and herbs. Without the overwhelming community support for Round Mountain Institute it never could have materialized into what was once just a vision. The vision was inspired by seeing the toxic agri-business of America polluting the environment and the simple non-toxic farming methods of Nepali villagers sustaining themselves in rhythm with the Earth.

Multidisciplinary center offers a varied, year-round program of theater, dance, and concerts; art, historical exhibitions, and hands on art; and humanities education for all. The center includes a 500-seat indoor theater, 1,200-seat outdoor amphitheater, museum, gallery, classrooms, studios and a 7,000 square foot banquet/meeting room facility.

An annual mariachi concert and workshops featuring world-class mariachi groups, ballet folkloricos and Mariachi and Ballet Folklorico Workshops.

Majestic View Nature Center and Community Park is a place to learn about, understand, and appreciate the area's natural features and cultural history by interacting directly with nature! The 3,000 square foot Nature Center features hands-on nature and environmental displays, wildlife exhibits, a kid's area, classrooms and meeting space.

Charles Ault started the Players Guild in 1936 as a means to put food on the table in the middle of the depression. A love for the theatre and a creative mind brought a group of talented community actors and actress together to provide the public with live entertainment. This concept was later passed on to his son Charley Ault, Jr. who now runs the Players Guild. By age 8 Charley was in his first play, and directing by age 26. He fully took over the business by age 29 at which time he had been married for 10 years, had a 9 year old son and a 5 year old daughter. The Players Guild performed there for 14 yrs after which they traveled around the city, performing in such places as Lorretto Heights and Houston Fine Arts Center for 8 years. In 1990 they found their new home at the Festival Playhouse in Old Town Arvada. Donna and Charley are still together to this day and that is why the Players Guild is still a success.

PeaceJam is an international education program built around leading Nobel Peace Laureates who work personally with youth to pass on the spirit, skills and wisdom they embody. The goal of PeaceJam is to inspire a new generation of peacemakers who will transform their local communities, themselves and the world.

The mission of the Denver Classical Guitar Society is three-fold. First: to promote the classical guitar in the Denver community by providing concerts, workshops, and master classes open to both the public and the society members. Second: to provide a forum for local, national, and international performers and to encourage and promote both young and local professionals who are building careers by sponsoring concerts in the Denver community to acquaint the public with their talent. Third: to provide opportunities for social, educational, and musical interaction among professional, student, and amateur guitarists, as well as guitar enthusiasts in our community.
