ORIGINAL OBAMA PORTRAIT PAINTED DURING HOST COMMITTEE MEDIA WELCOMING PARTY GOES ON SALE
August 26, 2008
Posters, Limited-Edition Lithographs; Painting Acceptance Speech on Thursday
Denver, CO - August 26, 2008 - Internationally-renowned Denver artist Malcolm Farley painted an original of Obama on a four-foot by six-foot canvas during the 2008 Convention Host Committee's "Celebration With Altitude" Media Welcoming Party on Saturday at Elitch Gardens.
Now, signed limited edition lithographs and posters of Obama's portrait will be available to the public at the Denver 2008 Host Committee's merchandise booths along the 16th street mall in front of the Tabor Center and at Farley's new gallery, Malcolm Farley Fine Art in Cherry Creek North at 249 Clayton St. in Denver. The posters will sell for $40, and the proceeds will go to the Denver Host Committee.
The original Obama portrait will be auctioned online on the Denver 2008 Host Committee web site, and is expected to draw wide interest on the global art market. The original will be on display at Limelight Supper Club during the week of the Democratic National Convention.
On Thursday, Farley will paint Obama giving his acceptance speech live in the same unique style for which he has become known as "America's Premier Entertainment Artist" - an artist who has painted everything from Super Bowls, World Series, Stanley Cup Championships, Olympics, Grammy's, All-Star Games, and the U.S. Open. Posters will be available to the public, but no details are available at this time.
"Simply put, it is an honor to be chosen to paint such a monumental moment in history such as this" said Farley. "I have painted countless scenes in stadiums, arenas and baseball parks across the Globe, but painting that moment in Invesco Field when Obama accepts the nomination for president of the United States is like the Super Bowl, World Series, the Olympics, and NBA Championship rolled into one event."
In his distinctive painting style, Farley will blend bold strokes and vibrant colors to capture the drama, the banners, and the crowd scene at Invesco Field.
"Denver is throwing the party of the year, and who else to capture it but America's premiere artist and Denver's Native Son?" said Steve Sander, director of marketing for the City of Denver. "He lives in, and has contributed to, the Denver scene for years."
Not only is Farley recognized as America's best, he continues to gain global recognition for his ever-growing portfolio of high profile events. With his diverse and unique talent, Malcolm Farley is also the most sought after modern day artist to be booked into live painting performances for national and international television broadcasts, including CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox Sports, ESPN, NFL Films, NFL network, and the USA Network.
A recent Farley masterpiece of the National basketball Association Champions was auctioned for a record $115,500.
As a child of missionary parents, Farley traveled the world, gaining cultural perspective while "putting in time" during his junior high years at 9500 feet in Northern India and other global ports.
A former Hall of Fame athlete in college and a tenor sax player, Malcolm Farley creates art radiating the energy and impact that only someone who has experienced athletic competition and musical performance can bring to the viewer. His canvases are filled with the emotion of the moment, not just through his superior drawing skills and intoxicating use of color, but also with sincere underlying knowledge of the game.
Most recently Malcolm has been contracted to paint at the 2008 Olympics in Bejing and this year's 50th Grammy Award Ceremonies this spring. Earlier this year, one of his masterpieces of the World Champion San Antonio Spurs was auctioned live for a record $115,500 at a Texas event honoring the team.
In the last five years alone, Malcolm has painted US Opens, Super Bowls, World Series', PGA events, Stanley Cup Championships, and All Star Games for all the major sports leagues. In addition, he has performed live on stage with the likes of Mikhail Gorbachev, and musicians such as BB King, Carlos Santana, and Stevie Wonder, and was on hand to paint at the Soprano's season premier cast party. He has created marine and wildlife paintings for distinguished museums and aquariums. This World Class Artist is also a well-known philanthropist who has created memorable art and tile walls for children's foundations, hospitals, event centers and libraries across the country.
Farley also is Official Artist of the National Football League, the NFL Hall of Fame, and the MLB World Series.
