July 17, 2008
In August, you'll see the Mile High City on United Airlines flights, inviting travelers to "put Denver and Colorado on their travel hit list." In partnership with United, a short video featuring Mayor John Hickenlooper will be shown on United's August flights around the world, highlighting Denver and Colorado attractions and providing visitors and potential visitors a sense of the energetic and progressive spirit that the City embodies.
The video can be viewed at www.myspace.com/denverconvention2008 and www.youtube.com/mayorhickenlooper.
"We're excited to work with United Airlines to highlight some of Metro Denver's leading achievements," said Mayor John Hickenlooper. "With the eyes of the world already focused on Denver hosting the Democratic National Convention, we encourage people from all across the globe to explore our state and enjoy the cultural vitality, natural beauty and economic opportunities we have to offer."
The 75-second video highlights Denver's arts and cultural scene, the Rocky Mountain outdoor playground, 300 days of sunshine and the City's leadership in greening and sustainability. The segment also mentions the City as host of the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Held from August 25-28, 2008, the Democratic National Convention is expected to pump an estimated $160 million into the Denver area's economy and draw up to 50,000 official visitors to the region. United donated the cost of placing the video on its Inflight Entertainment system.
"We are pleased to partner with the city of Denver and to help show our customers what we've known for many years - Denver is both a beautiful tourist destination and economic hub for the Mountain West," said Mark Anderson, vice president of Governmental Affairs - United Airlines. "With tens of thousands of travelers daily, people around the world will get to hear directly from the Mayor about all that the Mile High city has to offer."
A longtime partner hosting the 2008 Democratic National Convention, United employs more than 5,200 people in the Denver area, including an estimated 4,600 employees at Denver International Airport. United Airlines is the official airline provider of the 2008 Democratic National Convention, marking the fourth consecutive time United has been selected as the official airline provider for a Democratic National Convention.
The video was produced by Platypi, an award-winning Denver-based production studio located at 1245 Champa St., 4th fl., Denver, CO 80204 (303.572.4477).
