The Magnolia Hotel Denver is ready to welcome delegates staying at The Magnolia from Vermont and West Virginia for the Democratic National Convention, Aug. 25-28, 2008. In honor of these special guests, The Magnolia Hotel staff has excitedly made several changes to make attendees feel right at home.
The Magnolia Hotel’s staff is trading in their typical uniforms for a patriotic look during Convention week. Staff will wear T-shirts with a red, white and blue “Vote Magnolia Hotels” message, and guests will be invited to fill out a “ballot” with their name and e-mail. Ballots can be submitted at the ballot boxes at the front desk and Harry’s Bar. One prize winner will be drawn to receive a grand prize five-day vacation to a Club Med resort, airfare included. The winner will be drawn on election night, Nov. 4, 2008.
In addition to the “Vote Magnolia Hotels” prize drawing, the following other activities will be offered during DNC week.
Throughout the entire Convention, Aug. 24-28:
Harry’s Bar on the lobby level will be re-named “The Mountaineer” for the week. The Mountaineer is the much-loved mascot of West Virginia University. Signs on the doors of Harry’s will say “Mountaineers enter here” while other signs will pay homage to the Catamout, the mascot of the University of Vermont. “The Mountaineer” will be open from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m. all week long. Additionally, from Monday through Thursday between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., anyone who works downtown (non-Convention attendees) and has continued to work downtown throughout the Convention will receive $1 domestic draft beers. All you need to do is present a business card with a downtown address to the bartender. Other weekly drink specials include $4 Grey Goose drinks and $4 Bloody Mary’s, available all day from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m. Special drinks in honor of West Virginia and Vermont will be offered at “The Mountaineer,” including:
* The “Spruce Knob”: Named for this the highest point in West Virginia, this drink celebrates their mountain heritage, with Kahlua, Coca-Cola and vodka.
* The “Miner’s Delight” celebrates West Virginia’s rich mining heritage, with a Pabst Blue Ribbon and a shot of Wild Turkey.
* The “Kanawha,” a twist on the Long Island Iced Tea, is named after West Virginia’s scenic and wild river.
* The “Blue Snow” is a Blue Curacao vodka martini, named after the cold ice-like snow on the slopes of Stowe, Mad River and other famous Vermont ski resorts.
* The “Autumn Leaf” is a colorful mixed drink with whiskey, vermouth, bitters and grenadine that pays homage to the spectacular New England autumn colors.
* The “Champlain” is a Champagne cocktail, created to recognize the beautiful Lake Champlain along Vermont’s Western boarder.
Saturday, Aug. 23 and Sunday, Aug. 24- During peak check-in days, beginning at noon, Champagne will be served to guests upon arrival in the lobby, and Magnolia staff will be decked out in custom Magnolia pajamas.
Monday, Aug. 25- Opening Day- Celebrate the first day of Convention by heading down to “The Mountaineer” to grab a drink after the Convention meetings and before the evening’s festivities.
Tuesday, Aug. 26-. Yellow Golden Delicious apples, the state fruit of West Virginia, will be available at the Front Desk to grab-and-go. The Golden Delicious apples were first discovered in West Virginia and have been grown in the state since 1912.
