Furthering its commitment to make this year’s Convention the most technologically-savvy event of its kind, the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) today named Panasonic the Official HDTV and High Definition Equipment Provider for the 2008 Democratic National Convention, to be held August 25-28 in Denver. In partnership with Secaucus, New Jersey-based Panasonic and other official providers, the DNCC is offering the most extensive HD-content created at a national political convention to date.
Panasonic is supplying the DNCC with HD video, still cameras and VIERA™ HD Plasma television screens to expand the Convention’s HD content offering, including behind-the-scenes photos and video from inside the Convention hall and the sights and sounds of other Convention activities throughout the week. Among the HD displays, are three 103-inch screens, the largest Plasma HDTVs currently available, prominently placed on the Convention stage. Panasonic is also providing the DNCC with Toughbook ruggedized laptop computers.
“We’re seeing an intense interest in this Convention from people all across the country who want to be part of the Convention experience,” said Aaron Myers, Online Communications Director at the DNCC. “Panasonic is helping to enhance that experience and bring the Convention to viewers on TV, the Web and inside the Convention Hall in true High-Definition – a Convention first. And we’re pleased with Panasonic’s efforts to provide educational opportunities for kids and inspire our young people to pursue their dreams.”
Panasonic developed and supports Kid Witness News, a hands-on video education program that encourages students in rural and economically-disadvantaged areas across the country to develop valuable cognitive, communication and organizational skills through the use of digital video technology. Panasonic and the DNCC have invited members of the Kid Witness News team at Denver’s Rachel B. Noel Middle School, a participant in the program, to attend the fourth night of the Democratic National Convention at INVESCO Field at Mile High and cover the event using Panasonic HD cameras.
“Panasonic is extremely proud to be the official HDTV and HD equipment provider for the Democratic National Convention, an event that promises to have historical significance,” said Bob Perry, Panasonic Senior Vice President. “With the Digital Transition on the horizon, we are encouraged that those viewing the convention from home will have access to the most pristine and powerful pictures available and those present at the Convention will experience the ultimate HD images while watching on the numerous Panasonic VIERA Plasma televisions throughout the hall.”
Panasonic started the Kid Witness News program in the United States in 1989 with a global expansion in 2003 reaching out to more than 70,000 children around the world.
