Floyd’s 99 Barbershop Hosts Party for Locals During DNC
August 19, 2008
Rock n’ Roll Barbershop Partners With Rock the Vote to Throw a Live Music Event Exclusively by Locals, for Locals
Floyd’s 99 Barbershop, a music-filled shop with superior customer service, atmosphere, cuts and convenience at an affordable price, will host a party for locals during the Democratic National Convention. One of only a few events open to the general public, the celebration will be held at Floyd’s 99’s newly renovated Champa Street shop in downtown Denver (1608 Champa St.). The event is sponsored by 42 Below Vodka, Fuze, Inferno Tattoo, Jimmy John’s and Vitamin Energy.
Rock the Vote (RTV), an organization that uses music, popular culture and new technologies to engage and incite young people to register and vote in every election, will be there encouraging locals to register to vote. Every person who registers to vote during the party with RTV will receive a card valid for one free shampoo at their next Floyd’s 99 visit.
“Denver is expecting 50,000 people while the Convention is in town,” says Rob O’Brien, Floyd’s 99 co-founder. “Things are bound to get hectic with all the visitors, so we wanted to put on a party just for locals to enjoy during the DNC week. We love Denver, and we wanted to show that to the community by throwing this special event for them.”
Based in Denver, Floyd’s 99 knows the Denver community well. They decided to choose Denver bands to help draw in a local crowd. Hot IQs, voted Westword’s Best Indie Pop Band in Denver 2008, and The Epilogues both represent some of the best, fresh new rock sound in Denver’s local music scene.
The musical setting inside Floyd’s 99 makes a perfect match to pair with not only local bands, but also Rock the Vote. The shop’s music décor, including musician and band posters, Rolling Stone cover shots and album covers plastered on the walls, bring a variety of sound and attitude to the shop. Located right off the 16th Street Mall, the shop provides easy access for locals to attend the event.
“With Rock the Vote’s message, our local music lineup and the hip atmosphere of the shop, this will be one public party the locals don’t want to miss during the DNC,” says O’Brien.
Event includes complimentary hors’d-oeuvres courtesy of Jimmy John’s, expertly mixed cocktails, live tattoos by Inferno Tattoo & Body Piercing and complimentary Vitamin Water/Energy and Fuze Healthy Infusion.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27th.
