Denver – the Mile High Wireless Hotspot

The world is going wireless — and Denver is no exception. With every passing week, new Denver Wi-Fi hotspots pop up, so chances are that if you’ve got your laptop handy, you’ll be able to log on to the Internet no matter where you are in the city. Check your email, upload vacation photos, update your blog, peruse your favorite Web pages – it’s all just a few clicks away in the Mile High City.

The 16th Street Mall offers free Wi-Fi for all your Web surfing needs.

Wireless Access in Downtown Denver
All up and down the 16th Street Mall, the unique outdoor pedestrian shopping/entertainment zone that connects LoDo and Capitol Hill, web surfers can enjoy free Internet access. Just find a sunny spot somewhere along the mall, turn on your Wi-Fi-enabled laptop and set it to the SSID (network identifier) “DowntownDenverWiFi”. You’ll be surfing the Web in no time. Get more info at www.downtowndenverwifi.com.

The same free wireless service is provided at Denver’s other shopping mecca, Cherry Creek North.

More Free Denver Wireless Access
Where else can you log on to the Net for free? Each of the Denver Public Library locations throughout the city and surrounding areas offers unlimited Wi-Fi access free of charge. Your Wi-Fi-enabled laptop will detect the wireless signal when you power it on. Click on your Internet browser icon to open a browser page. You will then be prompted to set a user Name and a password of your own choosing. After that, you’re home free. All three of the famed Tattered Cover bookstores (locations in LoDo, Cherry Creek and on Colfax Ave.) offer free wireless access to customers, as do numerous coffee shops and cafes all over Denver. Some may require passwords, so just ask your barista after ordering your cup of joe. Finally, your time waiting to board your flight at the Denver International Airport will be a lot more productive, thanks to the airport-wide free wireless access offered there.

These days, nearly all hotels in Denver offer some kind of in-room wireless access, sometimes for a small fee, sometimes complimentary. Check with the concierge desk for network passwords, access codes and any other information you may need.

Colorado Convention Center Wireless Access
If you’re spending any time in downtown’s state-of-the-art Colorado Convention Center and you need some online time, have no fear. Every inch of the sprawling center is a bona fide Wi-Fi zone. All that is required is a laptop or PDA-type device with wireless capability (or a wireless network card physically installed in the system) and either a credit card or a pre-paid access card to gain access. Pre-paid access cards are available for sale at the Business Center. Prices vary – when you open your browser, you’ll be directed to a Convention Center Web page, which will outline your options.

Denver International Airport Wireless Access
Last but not least, the Denver International Airport (DIA) recently became one of a handful or airports in the country to make wireless access free throughout the entire complex (Jeppesen Terminal, A, B and C concourses).
