Holiday Shopping in Denver's Arts Districts
'Tis the season for buying local! This Holiday shopping season, find some of those "only-in-Denver" gifts in Mile High neighborhoods. Make your way to some of the city's vibrant art districts and pick out a piece created by a local artist. You can also head to one of Denver's marvelous museums and buy a family membership or a unique present for someone special.
Start your shopping spree by exploring the ArtDistrict on Santa Fe, the hub of the Denver art scene, with the largest concentration of art galleries in Colorado. Featuring more than 40 galleries, shops, and restaurants, the district offers everything from traditional art to contemporary and emerging art, including painting, pottery, sculpture, photography, mixed media, graphic art, and textiles.
Next, move onto The Golden Triangle Museum District, a culturally stimulating neighborhood that is home to eight of Denver's museums, in addition to more than 50 galleries, fine art studios and specialty stores. At the Denver Art Museum's shop, you can choose from an array of beautiful and unique items perfect for holiday gift-giving, such as jewelry, books, scarves, games, prints and decorative accents for an artful home. You can also purchase gift memberships. The Colorado History Museum and the Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art offer a wide selection of unique books, jewelry and gifts that reflect the diversity of Colorado's heritage and traditions.
Just north of downtown, you'll find the newly christened River North Art District, which goes by the local moniker of "RiNo." Denver's cutting-edge creative types have turned RiNo into a hot spot -- and a great place to find an off-beat gift at a gallery.
During the Holiday season, Cherry Creek North's 16 blocks are filled with holiday lights and decor highlighting the region's largest collection of independently owned boutiques, home stores, restaurants and galleries. For an extra-special shopping experience on December 11 and 18, shoppers enjoy Candlelight Shopping Evenings with extended store hours. Candles lining the sidewalks, sparkling holiday lights in the trees and Denver's best choruses singing Christmas favorites will make this a memorable night out.
Next, head out to Belmar, Lakewood's exciting new downtown neighborhood, which gets all dressed up for the holidays. Belmar is a 22-square-city-block pedestrian district that recreates the ambiance of an old town village center, but with a distinctively contemporary flair. There are a number of galleries and boutiques perfect for finding cool gifts.
In Denver's Highlands neighborhood, west of Downtown, discover the burgeoning creative scene of the Tennyson Street Cultural District. The neighborhood boasts a growing number of shops, restaurants and art galleries, where you can spend an afternoon browsing antique prints, photographs, and paintings from local artists.
