RED ROCKS PARK HOSTS ITS FIRST AMERICAN INDIAN ART SHOW

The Denver American Indian Commission (DAIC) and Denver’s Division of Theatres and Arenas, Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre, announced the park’s first American Indian Art Show to be held at Red Rocks Trading Post on August 22 from 10 AM - 3 PM. The event will showcase authentic American Indian artwork from local and nationally known artists who reside in the Rocky Mountain region. Admission and parking are FREE.
“This art show is very special as it supports the public who are searching for authentic American Indian art as opposed to overseas-made imitations,” said Chuck Hedin organizer of the event. Donna Johnson chair of the Denver American Indian Commission Art Subcommittee added, “The DAIC is also excited to be working collaboratively with Theatres and Arenas to support our mission of advocating social and cultural awareness of the Denver American Indian community. We’re hopeful that this will turn into an annual event.”
“Archaic tribes occupied Red Rocks Park since 5000 B.C.,” said Erik Dyce, chief marketing officer for Denver’s Division of Theatres and Arenas. “Red Rocks is a perfect fit as several of the artists belong to the same tribes that camped, hunted, prayed and celebrated these then sacred and peace-keeping grounds in the 1800’s. It just makes sense and we’re so happy to be part of it.”
The authentic artwork will include paintings both in acrylic and oils, stone sculpture, pottery, leather work, original designed dream catchers and jewelry. A few of the artist tribal affiliations include; Lakota, Assiniboine, Arapahoe, Pueblo, Navajo, Arapahoe, Cree and Comanche.
