Truth or Dare Denver

"Smart" Parking Meters Are Here!

November 13, 2008

Denver Public Works is piloting new "smart" parking meters in the Downtown area in an effort to explore ways to make parking more convenient. The parking meters, which debut today, are solar powered, wireless and accept Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards. The meters also accept nickels, dimes, quarters and dollar coins.

The smart meter pilot will last approximately six months and after the pilot period is complete, the meters will be evaluated based on community feedback and common-sense factors including ease of use, efficiency, durability and reliability.  Please note, while the meters take a wider variety of payment forms than traditional meters, they do not accept Denver's parking meter cash keys.

The Smart Meter program will be piloted on these blocks in Downtown Denver:

South side of Wynkoop, between 16th & 17th

South side of Market, between 16th & 17th

North side of Champa, between 13th & 14th

South side of Champa, between 15th & 16th

South side of Tremont, between 16th & 17th

South side of Court, between 14th & 15th

West side of 14th, between Arapahoe and Champa

West side of Bannock, between Colfax and 14th
