Colfax Avenue. Denver has more live music venues than Los Angeles, and some of the best can be found on East Colfax. The Fillmore Auditorium, the Ogden, and the Bluebird Theater offer intimate settings with great acoustics and have seen some of the most well-known musicians of the last century grace their stages, from Bob Dylan to Cake. The blocks surrounding the theaters are packed with bars and clubs that excel at late-night fun. By day, the small boutiques in the neighborhood offer numerous indie design options. East of Capitol Hill, at Colfax and Elizabeth, you’ll find Greek Town, an area of town that is the newest location of the nationally renowned Tattered Cover Bookstore. The bookstore recently relocated to the historic Lowenstein Theater, with a coffeehouse in the old theater’s lobby and dozens of bookshelves, where the stage and orchestra pit once were. Comfy chairs situated among the unusual architecture make this a great place to flip through the pages of your favorite books.

Colfax runs east and west from Aurora to Lakewood, for 26 miles, through the heart of Denver.

Locals Know
Locals have dubbed the street “Coolfax” for its hip bars and great live music scene; the area has the most condensed array of ethnic dining in the city, with a range of authentic restaurants, from Greek to Ethiopian.
Special Events
Each May, runners attempt to conquer the altitude by running the Colfax Marathon.
