Denver Cigar Shops

Do you have a hankering for a fine cigar? An Arturo Fuente Opus X? Or a Davidoff Grand Cru Series? Maybe even a Montecristo Platinum Robusto 5 Pack?

The 2006 statewide smoking ban in Colorado may have limited your choices on where to smoke a premium cigar, but there are still plenty of spots in The Mile High City to buy (and smoke) those fine stogies.

Churchill Bar

Located inside the historic Brown Palace Hotel in Downtown, the Churchill Bar opened in 1996 in a space that was once the office of founder Henry C. Brown. The Churchill is a throwback, with its red-leather chairs and a library-like aura. This is where sophisticated folks go to smoke a great cigar, sip a fine wine or single-malt scotch and dine on locally sourced slow-roasted prime rib or Rocky Mountain trout. And with a selection of over 60 cigars, their customized humidor has something for every palate. Hours: Daily 11 a.m.–11 p.m.

Featured Things To Do

Jerri's Tobacco Shop & Fine Wines

Denver’s oldest smoke shop sells 75 brands and 375 different cigars, including Davidoff, Ashton and Montecristo. Jerri’s is conveniently located for Downtown visitors in the Denver Pavilions, right behind the Hard Rock Cafe. Since its move to this larger space a few years ago, Jerri’s has added fine wines to its wares, proving the shop isn't resting on its laurels with more than 60 years in business. Smoking is allowed, and there’s a small seating area in the front. Hours: Mon.–Sat. 10 a.m.–9 p.m.; Sun. 11 a.m.–6 p.m.

Tewksbury & Co.

This Writer Square shop has been open since 1996. It offers more than 40 cigar brands, accessories, pipes, tobacco and a collection of cigar store Indians, hand-crafted from American hardwoods by artist Ralph Gallagher. Located where Downtown meets Lower Downtown, Tewksbury also includes a cigar lounge and offers daily wine tastings from 1:30 to 5 p.m. This eclectic store also has a cigar of the month club. Hours: Mon.-Fri. 10 a.m.–7 p.m.; Sat. 11 a.m.–6 p.m.; Sun. noon–5 p.m.

Devon's Pub & Cigar Bar

Devon's Pub & Cigar Bar on the corner of Happy Canyon Road and Hampden Avenue in south Denver has become a Mecca for cigar and cigarette smokers alike. Since the Colorado smoking ban, the Colorado Clean Indoor Air Act, went into effect July 1, 2006, Devon’s has been a haven for smokers. Although Devon’s turned its walk-in humidor into a wall unit to allow for more seating, the bar maintains the 5 percent tobacco sales threshold to allow smoking inside. An expanded patio is available for those who seek fresh air, as well as pool tables and HD TVs for entertainment. The pub doesn't sell food, but customers can order from nearby restaurants. Hours: Daily 10 a.m.–2 a.m.

Edward’s Pipe & Tobacco Shop

Although Edward's Pipe & Tobacco Shop caters to the pipe smoker, with its many fine tobacco and pipe selections, cigar smokers aren't left out. The shop boasts the largest walk-in humidor in Denver, which is packed with more than 1,000 different cigars, including several bundled, generic bargain cigars. There are even smoking lounges that will remind you of those old rumpus rooms from the 1970s — only better, because Edward's has free wifi and a flat-screen TV. Driving tip: From Broadway, turn west on Girard Avenue and park in the rear lot; sometimes it’s tough to park on Broadway from either direction, but you can enter Edward’s from the back. Hours: Mon.–Sat. 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sun. 11 a.m.–5 p.m.

Cigars on 6th

Like many of the cigar shops in Denver, Cigars on 6th is a spot where cigar aficionados can smoke and talk “stogie” with their brethren in a comfortable atmosphere. Several cigar-smoking buddies rave about the selection in this small shop. It has a full supply of Padrons, and — when the weather’s nice — you can laze outside and watch the world go by on bustling 6th Avenue. Driving tip: Cigars on 6th is only five blocks east of Speer Boulevard, a main Denver artery that runs through Downtown, so it’s easy to reach. Your best bet is to park on one of the side streets (Pearl, Washington or Clarkson) if you can't find an immediate spot on 6th. Or, have lunch across the street at Brothers BBQ, which has a parking lot, then head to Cigars on 6th. Hours: Mon.–Sat. 10 a.m.–9 p.m.; Sun. 11 a.m.–7 p.m.

Palma Cigars

Palma Cigars has been in business more than 25 years and is known for producing the only handmade cigars in Colorado. In addition to blending all the cigars for Palma, master cigar roller Clay Carlton develops blends for several other cigar companies. The shop also includes a full bar and lounge area with premium wines and spirits. Hours: Mon.–Thurs. 11 a.m.–10 p.m.; Fri.–Sat. 11 a.m.–12 a.m.; Sun. noon– 8 p.m.

Capitol Cigars

This Cap Hill cigar shop and lounge is where Denver politicos come to meet, greet, smoke and drink. In addition to a selection of more than 600 cigars from around the world, Capitol Cigars offers a comfortable smoking lounge with free wifi and a complete beverage service, including beers, liquor and wine. Or pony up to the bar and enjoy a cigar and cocktail while watching your favorite sports teams. Not sure what to order? Ask one of the well-trained staff members to suggest a pairing based on your personal tastes. Hours: Mon.–Fri. 10 a.m.–10 p.m.; Sat. 10 a.m.–11 p.m.; Sun. 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
