Men’s Journal Names Denver’s East Highlands One of the U.S.’s Best Neighborhoods
Word is getting out! Denver’s vibrant East Highlands neighborhood has long been a go-to locale for Mile High City residents in search of cutting-edge eateries, exciting nightlife and eclectic shopping options, but now the world outside of the city is catching on. In Men’s Journal’s annual overview of the U.S.’s best neighborhoods, the magazine singled out East Highlands.
“In burgeoning East Highland, Colorado’s capital finally has its own Brooklyn,” the magazine says. “Overlooking the downtown skyline, E-Hi’s brick brownstones, row houses, and modern condominium complexes are bringing in single professionals who party like grown-ups, [and] couples who aren’t quite ready to settle down.” Read the full article.
This isn’t the Highlands’ first brush with fame: In the past few years, the neighborhood has been featured in Travel + Leisure Magazine and National Geographic Traveler. The dining scene here is particularly noteworthy with Lola’s delectable coastal Mexican cuisine, Duo’s inspired, local-ingredient focused creations, and Vita’s Mediterranean-inspired fare.
Highlands Square at 32nd and Lowell offers a charming stretch of quaint boutiques and restaurants, situated among bungalow-style houses. Browse in shops with everything from books and handmade gifts to fine women’s attire and contemporary fashions. Grab a cup of coffee at the popular hangout Common Grounds and start browsing.
Like much of the Mile High City, outdoor adventures are plentiful here. Sloan’s Lake Park, a 177-acre urban oasis, is framed by a stunning view of the Denver skyline. Water skiers and boaters zoom across the lake in the summer, while picnicking families grill on the green expanse. And no outdoor-lover should miss the REI Flagship Store, housed in a refurbished turn-of-the-century building, and featuring a 45-foot-tall climbing wall, as well as all kinds of camping, fitness and sporting equipment.
