Truth or Dare Denver

Denver Transportation Attractions and Museums. Denver is the most isolated big city in North America -- 1,000 miles from any other city its own size. Connecting Denver to the rest of the world has made for some fascinating transportation stories and museums.

  • Union Station

Opened in 1914, the station is still the center of rail activity in Denver and serves as the station for both light rail and AMTRAK. The basement contains one of the largest model railroad layouts in the nation and is open to the public on the last Friday evening of every month.

  • Platte River Trolley

Denver once had a huge network of trolleys. Today, only the Platte River Trolley survives, offering rides between Confluence Park and the Children's Museum of Denver in the summer months.

  • Venice on the Creek

Another interesting (and romantic) way to travel in Denver is on an English punt through a series of locks on Cherry Creek. The punts are maneuvered by a gondolier with long poles, similar to punts in Cambridge, England.

  • Colorado Railroad Museum

All aboard! The Colorado Railroad Museum is the largest railroad museum in the state and has locomotives, cars, model railroads and other memorabilia. Colorado was once crossed by 6,000 miles of narrow gauge railroads. Several times a year, a steam locomotive offers rides on a circular track.

  • Cussler Museum

Dedicated to the preservation of astounding rare and vintage automobiles from around the globe, the Cussler Museum is an extensive collection of more than 100 gorgeous cars from 1906 to 1965.

  • Forney Transportation Museum

Planes, trains and automobiles are on display here, including everything from one of the few remaining Big Boy Locomotives to Amelia Earhart's Kissel.

  • Wings Over The Rockies Air & Space Museum

This museum has 40 historical aircraft and exhibits representing the age of aviation from WWI to the present.

  • Vintage Motos Museum

Home to approximately 200 two-wheeled wonders, Vintage Motos, located in Lower Downtown (LoDo) is Colorado’s premier vintage motorcycle museum. Over the past 40 years, owner Jim Dillard’s hobby of restoring and collecting a few favorite specimens has turned into a treasure trove of marvelous machines from 13 countries. With a focus on classic Italian marques, Vintage Motos offers plenty of eye-candy for the motorcycle lover.

  • Georgetown Loop Railroad

Journey back in time with a ride on one of Colorado's great narrow gauge railroads. Be astounded by the Devil's Gate High Bridge, Rocky Mountain views and the engineering marvel that is the Georgetown Loop. Just 45 miles west of Denver on I-70. Open May - December.
