For those not among the 116,000+ people who visited the Mile High Tree at the Denver Performing Arts Complex (DPAC) during the holidays, there’s still time to see it – or see it again! The city’s newest night time spectacle is launching new lights and musical programming featuring acclaimed local artists for the month of January, following Denver’s tradition of leaving holiday lights up through the National Western Stock Show & Rodeo, or in this case through January 31, which takes it through the January Outdoor Retailer convention.
At 110 feet tall and 39 feet in diameter, the Mile High Tree is the tallest digital tree in North America featuring dynamic, pre-programmed light shows every 15 minutes throughout the evening using pixel LED technology choreographed to music.
Through January 31, the Mile High Tree will offer two alternating musical light shows nightly from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Both shows will be accompanied by stunning new digital graphics that push the boundaries of the Tree’s lighting technology, including dancing guitars and dramatic new patterns.
The first program features Colorado-themed songs and artists including:
- “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire
- “Rocky Mountain High” by John Denver
- “Carry Your Heart” by Wildermiss
- “I Need Never Get Old” by Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats
- “She Is” by The Fray
- “Ho Hey” by The Lumineers
The second program features a collection of favorite karaoke songs, perfect to sing along to:
- “Conga” by Gloria Estefan
- “Crazy in Love” by Beyoncé
- “Dancing Queen” by ABBA
- “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston
- “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge
- “Good Time” by Alan Jackson
- “Any Man of Mine” by Shania Twain
- “Mountain Music” by Alabama
The interlude following each program will feature the Colorado Symphony playing Charles Denler’s Portraits of Colorado – An American Symphony No. 1.
Created by Spain-based ILMEX Illumination, part of Ximenez Group, a world-leading firm in artistic and decorative lighting, the tree presents a series of dynamic, pre-programmed lighting and music experiences using pixel mapping technology through 60,000 LED lights. ILMEX is globally renowned for creating decorative lighting productions in cities throughout the world including London, Milan, Brussels, Dubai, Tokyo, Madrid, Moscow, Bogota, Perth and Montreal. The company behind the lighting design for the Mile High Tree is Madrid-based Brut Deluxe, which has created lighted art installations across the globe.
The Mile High Tree attraction is a partnership between VISIT DENVER’s Tourism Improvement District and Denver Arts & Venues, with the support of the DPAC tenants including Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Colorado Ballet, Opera Colorado and the Colorado Symphony.
