From prioritizing brownfield cleanup projects to encouraging the use of electric vehicles and alternate fuel sources, the Mile-High City does its part for the planet. In 2019, Denver was certified as LEED Platinum under the US Green Building Council’s LEED for Cities program, only the 11th community in the world to receive the Platinum certification. VISIT DENVER and the City of Denver were the first to achieve Level One certification with the ASTM/APEX Standard for Destinations for Environmentally Sustainable Meetings, Events, Trade Shows, and Conferences. VISIT DENVER was the first CVB in the world to achieve this. In January 2019, Denver was one of 25 cities to be named as a recipient of the Bloomberg American Cities Climate Challenge. This program recognizes and supports cities’ efforts to tackle climate change and promote a sustainable future for residents. Siemens ranked Denver #5 in its Green Cities Index for the US and Canada. As of late-2019, Denver is the newest and only fourth U.S. city to join the Global Destinations Sustainability Index; and it is the top U.S. city listed on the index.
