If you want to get a glimpse of the future of home design, tap into the bright minds at today’s colleges and universities.

They are designing homes that are efficient, sustainable, blend into their surroundings with soft tones and use landscaping in clever ways for passive energy savings.

And you can see these concepts for yourself at the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon, Oct. 5-15, 2017. It’s more than a collegiate competition. Consumers and homeowners can learn the latest in energy-efficient design, clean energy technologies, smart home solutions, water conservation measures and money-saving opportunities.

Solar Decathlon 2017 will feature free home tours; a sustainability expo; and professional, consumer and middle school educational events.

The event will take place at the 61st & Peña commuter rail station near Denver International Airport on the A line.
