Almodóvar En Total: The Skin I Live In

Aug 26, 2017 - Aug 27, 2017

Robert Legard (Antonio Banderas), an eminent plastic surgeon, turns his mysterious mansion into an underground operating room where he unscrupulously seeks to create a skin that could have saved his deceased wife, who was badly burned in an accident. Vera (Elena Anaya), with a shocking past to be revealed later, is Legard’s involuntary specimen and captive human sculpture. Based on Thierry Jonquet’s French novel Mygale (titled Tarantula for its English translation), this film reunites Almódovar with Banderas for the first time since Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! (1990), which also dealt with the story of a captor and his captive. The Skin I Live In is a psychological thriller and horror story of unmatched cruelty and madness.

Saturday screenings will have an extended introduction by Ernesto R. Acevedo-Muñoz, Ph.D.
Director of Film Studies at the University of Colorado/Boulder and author of the book, Pedro Almodovar.
