Improv Cabaret: An Improvised Fosse Musical
Feb 12, 2019 - Mar 19, 2019
Dark. Jazzy. Sexy. Live music.
Improvisation doesn't just have to be a non-stop yuk-fest, it can be dramatic, and tragic, with dance that is sexy and sexy dancing while singing a tragic song. Improv Cabaret: An Improvised Fosse Musical is all of those things and more. This show is an improvised, full length, musical, play that may make your head spin. Inspired by the music, dance, and style of the Jazz Age and musicals such as Cabaret and Chicago, Improv Cabaret explores both the high-energy and dangerous sides of life in a metropolis through improvised scenes and music.
“You get the experience of seeing a musical in Denver’s theater district,” says Director Kat Bond, “AND you have the joy of seeing the only performance created by your suggestions. It’s your private performance of a one-time show."
Be careful, though—not everything in Improv Cabaret is coming up roses. All those passing strangers, those narrow alleyways, those high-rise shadows mean that danger lurks in the urban jungle.
“Improv Cabaret is a dangerous musical," says Bond. "While it is a comedy, we will not shy away from scarier or grittier subject matter. . . . Our characters will be on the fringe of society, the oddballs. You can be a murderer or a starlet in this show, even if you work at the dog groomer. Expect to laugh. Expect a story. Expect to see deeper themes and social commentary in a fun way.”
