Living History: A Concert in the Hall
Oct 24, 2019
Enjoy a unique concert and theater experience inside beautiful Botswana Hall! The evening will begin with a classical music concert of a piece by 18th-century composer Chevalier de Saint-Georges, a gifted virtuoso of African descent. Chevalier’s story and music will be accompanied by a special performance by Stephen Brackett of the Flobots. During intermission, explore wildlife halls and see African zoology specimens and cultural artifacts from the Museum’s collections.
The second part of the evening will feature a reading of a new unproduced stage musical by Brenton Weyi, an inaugural fellow in the Denver Center Playwrights’ Group. Along with a full cast and musical ensemble, Weyi will present Act I of My Country, My Country, based on the true story of Congolese independence. Weyi is also a TEDx organizer, storytelling Grandslam champion, and first-generation citizen. In partnership with Groupmuse, this “Massivemuse” event will explore how both human and natural history are constantly reshaped.
