Nicola Stefano - Abstracts in the Annex

Mar 6, 2020 - Mar 22, 2020

There are those that have a way with words, then there is one who has a way with painting a picture that's worth a thousand words. Diagnosed with autism and of both Italian and Scottish heritage, I dedicate myself to stick out from the crowd and tell my story through a series of paintings as a means of communicating with the world.

Salvador Dali is an inspiration of mine. He once said that what you see isn't always what you see. Those words intrigued me to say the least. I've been described as being a wise owl, since I have a way with words and the calm tendencies they bring to an otherwise bombastic situation. So I try incorporating that concept along with what Dali said into my pieces while sharing my own words of wisdom to explain things further in depth.

The majority of my pieces contain subjects with eyes but no other features. This is because not only does my style encourage seeing with our sight; but because there is far more in the world around us than meets the eye. Now to leave this on a high and happy note.
