Opening Reception: Art of the Apron - TIE ONE ON
Dec 3, 2021
Twenty years ago, EllynAnne Geisel began collecting old aprons and simultaneously seeking reactions to the aprons from both men and women. She has since put together an installation comprised of vintage aprons, black and white snapshots of apron-wearers from personal albums, and apron memories. The stories explore the gamut of human experiences, tapping into our collective memories via universal themes, such as gratitude, wellness, survival, fortitude, opportunity, tradition, and faith. Told through the people behind the aprons, it is their reminiscence that gives life to the exhibit. This exhibit has traveled the country and was most recently at the Colorado History Museum.
A group of talented Denver artists including Annie DeCamp, Joy Berenson, Javier Badell, Michael Dowling, Brett Matarazzo, Jess Rose, Koko Bayer, Laura Goodson Kimberly Wolff and Kristina Davies were invited to use an apron as a canvas of expression. These aprons will be displayed and bid upon on opening night, with the auction proceeds benefiting Haven and Platte Forum. Haven provides BIPOC womxn a sanctuary of recovery and discovery through art and storytelling. Platte Forum is an award-winning urban art and activism laboratory – where established artists work side by side with young artists to create a body of work that is reflective of a global voice.
