Opening Reception: Day of the Dead
Oct 13, 2017
Longmont Museum’s annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is celebrating its 17th anniversary this year! Attracting more than 6,000 people annually to the exhibit, family event, and many programs, it’s the largest Day of the Dead celebration in Colorado. Día de los Muertos is a time to honor and celebrate deceased loved ones. Community participation is an essential part of this holiday that is full of life, reflection, food, family, and fun. The celebration demonstrates how a diverse community can come together to share a common desire – to honor our ancestors and keep their memories alive.
This year’s Día de los Muertos exhibition will be in the Museum’s Swan Atrium – a two-story space full of light – and will showcase gigantes, traditional giant puppets made by local artists. Altars for the dead, created by members of the community, will also be a central part of the exhibit. Join us for the free opening reception, which include a complimentary deluxe nacho bar courtesy of Cyclhops Mexican Cantina and a cash bar. Learn more at
