James C. Jones: Exhibition Statement
In this series of new work, James C. Jones explores the power and energy within universal geometric forms and how their interplay with the natural world can be a catalyst to navigating our inner world. His art juxtaposes digital printing with watercolors, ink and the natural grains of wood to look at how man-made constructs are intertwined with natural life. James’ non-traditional, and unique method of creating art, asks us to look deeper into the self, which can then serve as a pathway to clarity, peace, and insight.
Kristy K. Smith: Exhibition Statement
“There is no path. The path is made by walking” Antonio Machado
Something catches your eye and you have to step off the well known route to see and experience what is there. Kristy Smith’s paintings are such off-road journeys for her and for the viewer. Off-road may be a color or the addition of a different medium or a different way of using the paint. Each painting is an exploration of a moment, finding a way to express what draws her in new directions. Like path-making, Kristy’s work develops as she moves into painting, spontaneously responding to the colors and shapes on the canvas. There is no right or wrong way to go because there is no definite destination other than the resolution of the work into its own moment of completeness. The finished work is a celebration in color, line, and shape, found in life’s complex beauty.
Cyncie Winter: Exhibition Statement
In her most recent series, Cyncie Winter weaves together poetry and painting to explores the theme of Pathways. Pathways always lead Somewhere, and it often takes courage and discernment to choose which ones to take. Whatever our choices might be, the opportunity awaits us each and every day to open ourselves to discovery, wonder and the potential for new growth.
The creation and expression of art can be a Pathway for both the artist and the viewer—an often mysterious doorway that can empower us to experience fullness and wholeness of being, opening into deeper gratitude, connection, possibility, and truly being able to claim our own Paths of the Heart.
Using multiple washes and layers of liquid acrylic paint, Cyncie explores what it means to invite in fluidity and resilience to both creativity and to life itself. The shapes and symbols and colors that emerge from this complex process can provide symbolic teachings for what it means to follow a Pathway of Awakening to what is Calling.
