Despite having been on the planet for more than 100 million years and outliving the dinosaurs, nearly all seven sea turtle species are now on the brink of extinction. During this special screening of the film Saving Sea Turtles, narrated by legendary marine biologist Dr. Sylvia Earle, you will discover the courageous collaborative efforts of scientists and citizens to save the Kemp’s ridley sea turtle. Tyler Lyson, curator of vertebrate paleontology and turtle evolution expert, will set the stage as you consider the turtle’s ancient past, and filmmakers Jenny Ting and Michele Gomes will share behind-the-scenes stories and more insight into the efforts to protect these animals from habitat fragmentation and other related issues of endangerment caused by humans.
