Nature Personified - Solo Exhibition by Barbara DeMarlie

Barbara DeMarlie centers her solo exhibition around themes of nature that have affected her deeply. The exhibition features a series called "Forests of My Father" of paintings of places his great grandchildren will never see, and "White Angels", paintings of little flowers that bud, blossom, reproduce and die, many times in 24 hours. For Barbara, these living things teach about grace, purpose, beauty and time.

The paintings are created in layers of oil glazes on canvas, along with mono-prints, hand colored on paper, and mixed media pieces on wood panels. The surfaces have been worked and reworked in a subtle dance, both pursuing formal elements and having the artist 'get out of the way' until each piece tells a story.

Barbara DeMarlie earned a BA in Art and Secondary Education at Regis College. After taking time to raise a family she pursued a Graduate Degree in Art Therapy at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has spent time as a resident painter at The Anderson Ranch in Snowmass Colorado and recently worked at the Ballinglen Arts Center in County Mayo, Ireland. Barbara is a member Boulder Open Studios, Osmosis Gallery in Niwot, and the Colorado Women's Caucus for Art.  Her work can be viewed at:  https://www.barbarademarlieart.com

Nature Automated – Solo Exhibition by Susan Hazaleus

For Susan Hazaleus, the interaction between humans and machines bearing 'life-like' characteristics is the inspiration for the installation “Nature Automated” featuring eleven pink, winged creatures who respond to the presence of a viewer by seemingly coming to life and flapping their wings.  As the viewer approaches more closely, the wings will flap more quickly, thus simulating the experience of coming upon a flock of birds resting on a beach or promontory.

Susan Hazaleus creates works that are ephemeral, unexpected and interactive. Her work employs a variety of media, incorporating both traditional materials such as paper and fabric, and more contemporary materials, including electronics and video or sound projections. She works with electronic components and microcontrollers to make kinetic objects with light and movement.

As a Post Modernist with links to the Dada Movement, Susan Hazaleus’s focus is on spontaneity and irreverence. Following the traditions of Dada, her work frequently utilizes intuitive processes and celebrates the whimsical and idiosyncratic aspects of human experience. Essential Nature - Solo Exhibition by Kim Roberts

The mountains surrounding Kim Roberts' home in Crestone, Colorado provide the inspiration for her contemporary and abstract landscapes. Her motivation for making art is to share an experience of an expanded state of mind that often arises in the midst of high mountain landscapes. Kim’s intention is to create the space for the viewer to pause and take a moment to rest the mind and experience a sense of peace.

Kim Roberts works primarily in oil and encaustic wax. Each piece begins with a sense of place with the geography acting as a mirror for a sense of internal location evoked by each landscape. Through the dance of the elements, a new vista opens.

Kim Roberts, MA, has been creating art since 2002. As a trained psychotherapist and authorized Ashtanga Yoga teacher, Kim spent 25 years teaching yoga and leading retreats throughout the world. Kim is the author of two books, Ashtanga Yoga for Beginner's Mind, and Toward a Secret Sky: Creating Your Own Modern Pilgrimage. Her work is on view at https://kimrobertsart.com
