Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra with Trio Arabica
Mar 5, 2019
On Tuesday, March 5th, the world-renowned classical music group Tafelmusik will perform a free concert along with Trio Arabica at Denver South High School. This performance is part of their US tour entitled “Tale of Two Cities: The Leipzig-Damascus Coffee House” in which members of Tafelmusik will perform works by composers such as Handel, Telemann and J.S. Bach. Tafelmusik will be performing along with Trio Arabica, a group of three musicians with ties to the Middle East who will be performing traditional Arabic folk music on authentic Middle Eastern instruments. This tour looks to highlight the music of the 18th century in both cities which, while some 2,000 miles apart, were each important trading centers in their time and frequently saw an exchange of cultures, including in the music that was played in the coffee houses of each city.
Tafelmusik has toured extensively, traveling to over thirty countries since their founding in 1979. The group is one of Canada’s most famous orchestras and tours frequently throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. This free performance has been made possible through a generous grant from Denver Friends of Chamber Music. The concert will begin at 6:30 pm, Denver South High School’s Orchestra will be opening for Tafelmusik.
