The Mrs. Wheatland Pageant
Feb 28, 2019 - Mar 9, 2019
At ages 29 and 33, June and Jim Cleveland are growing restless in the small town of Wheatland, Colorado. To pass the time, they begin acting out original sitcom scenes from different decades. June is exhilarated by their foray into the 70’s, and she adores the predictability of the 1950’s. But when Vivian and the local school secretary proclaim that Wheatland women only get pregnant in their 20’s, she clings to a 50’s sitcom worldview as her 30th birthday approaches.
1950’s sitcom fantasies, small town beauty pageants, strange fertility regimens, and gender norms collide in this rollicking comedy about a search for certainty in a world that is anything but.
“I am absurdly excited about this show! It’s a dream come true: The opportunity to work with an exceptional director and production crew, a hilarious and ridiculously talented cast at a gem of a black box theatre dedicated to new work by Colorado playwrights. It’s unprecedented,” says writer Lisa Wagner Erickson.
