Fired - Ceramics by Barbara Ellard
“Fired" is collection of pit fired ceramic sculptures created within the last two years.

"I refer to this work as "organic geometry". The forms themselves are organic in nature. Pods, leaves, peaks, moons, and asteroids. The way I treat these forms is very stylized with fluid lines and edges, which are reminiscent of geometrics.

I am concerned with volume, the space the piece occupies, as well as the negative space the pieces create. Pit firing these pieces gives them a seamless, all around finish that enhances the forms. Also, the fact that the firing itself dictates the results is an exciting way to finish each form.”

Artists on Santa Fe is a gallery with working artists' studios located in the heart of the Art District on Santa Fe. Intertwined Dialog - Ceramic and 3D Printed Sculpture
Ceramic and 3D Printed Sculpture by Macy Dorf and Judy Gardner

Both Macy’s and Judy’s work is a dialog between the materials and the process. Macy works viscerally, trusting that the two will influence the direction of the piece. Judy’s approach is driven more by a shamanic view of the world, seeing everything as alive. The materials speak about how they want to express themselves. It is always fascinating that although the artists work individually, often with little communication, the resulting work seems to be holding a similar conversation.

Artists on Santa Fe is a gallery with working artists' studios located in the heart of the Art District on Santa Fe.
