Located in the heart of the Arts District on Santa Fe, the Center for Visual Art is the off-campus art gallery of Metropolitan State University of Denver. In addition to showing significant contemporary art, the award-winning CVA serves as an interactive art laboratory for MSU Denver students and the community.

Sugar Bound :: Suchitra Mattai <p>How does one define home and what does it mean to belong? Viewers are invited to consider these questions and explore how environments shape personal narratives, family histories and constructions of the self in sugar bound, Suchitra Mattai’s latest solo exhibition on view at the Center for Visual Art at MSU Denver beginning August 30.<br /><br />Born in Guyana and based in Denver, Mattai is an internationally recognized artist who was recently nominated for the prestigious United States Artist Fellowship and is slated to participate in an upcoming international biennial in 2019. In The Margins <p>Join us for In The Margins, a celebratory exploration of the complex culture of the Indo-Caribbean diaspora led by sugar bound artist Suchitra Mattai and her sister, Sumitra Mattai. Whether you chose to engage with sugar bound through dance, discussion or both, each participant will come away with a much deeper understanding of the work on view (and maybe some impressive new dance moves too).<br />Feel free to stop by anytime to enjoy one or all of the following components of this unique event:<br />4:30 pm :: Indian Dance Workshop with Sumitra Mattai<br />Participants will get an overview of the different styles of Indian classical dance and their distinguishing features and histories. All ages and abilities welcome! Active and/or dance attire is not required but come dressed ready to move.<br />6:00 pm :: Semi-classical/Bollywood style dance performance by Sumitra Mattai<br />6:15 pm :: Artist talk with Suchitra Mattai, Sumitra Mattai and Jacqueline A. McLeod, Ph.D., J.D<br />Learn more about the work in sugar bound and the Mattai's fascinating family history during this unique artist talk. The discussion will be moderated by Jacqueline A.
