Relive America’s western mining heritage at the museum that works! There is something for every age and interest featuring restored and operating multi-ton steam engines, mining equipment, gold panning, minerals, art and antiques, live burros and nature explorations.

  • Group Activities Description: Guided tours are conducted year round, indoors and fully handicapped accessible. Tours last approximately 90 minutes taking visitors through the rich history of the American West from the Gold Rush to the Industrial Revolution. The tour proceeds through the evolution of mining and it's relation to power and machinery. The museum contains many working steam engines from the 1800's. The building itself was erected around a 37 ton steam engine which is operated daily. Discounts available for groups over 10. Call ahead for reservations.
  • Group Performance Description: The museum sits on 27 acres of lush historic farming property with meadows, natural springs and ponds. A historic barn built in the 1800's is available for music or other entertainment groups. It is a beautiful setting for any group to gather in.

Grant County Exhibit Lecture <p>In association with the exhibit opening, Ms. Ann McMahon and Mr. Andrew Lindlof will speak with guests about their experience gathering the necessary information for this exhibit and the importance of preserving the history of mining in Grant County. The lecture will take place Thursday, September 14, 2017. Light refreshments will be served at 6:00 pm and the talk will start at 7:00 pm. <br /><br />Those interested in attending please contact the museum to reserve a spot. New Exhibit at the Western Museum of Mining & Industry <p>“The Disappearing Mining Landscape of Grant County, New Mexico”<br /><br />The Western Museum of Mining &amp; Industry’s new special exhibit, utilizes photography with geological samples and information to document all the districts of the historical mining landscape of Grant County, New Mexico. <br /><br />The Grant County exhibit will open Thursday September 14, 2017 at 6:00 pm followed by a guest lecture. The exhibit will be available during normal museum hours (Monday &#8211; Saturday, 9:00 am &#8211; 4:00 pm) until Saturday December 9, 2017.<br /><br />Why is the history of mining worth preserving in Grant County? Mining is the reason for the existence of Silver City; furthermore mining has always been part of Grant County!<br /><br />Years of photography and geology training and experience are behind the creation of this body of work. <br /><br />It is meant to preserve history for others to contemplate, to understand, to enjoy and to be inspired by!</p> <p>Normal museum rates apply. Reynolds Ranch Harvest Festival <p>Looking for a way to celebrate the beauty of fall? Bring your family to the Western Museum of Mining &amp; Industry for the annual Reynolds Ranch Harvest Festival. On Saturday October 7th and Sunday October 8th WMMI will open up the historic 27 acres located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains for a celebration of all things fall!</p> <p>The event will feature a pumpkin patch, hayrides, food trucks and craft vendors! The popular Gold Canyon Gunfighters will be back again to wow the crowds. Visitors can witness the operating stamp mill and blacksmith shop as well as hear the roar of the museum’s working steam engines. There will be crafts, fun activities for kids, and face painting! So come to WMMI and get in the spirit of fall!</p> America/North_Dakota/Center
