When the summer sun goes down in The Mile High City, the fresh night air beckons everyone outside for live music, outdoor cinema and al fresco patio dining.
ROCKING OUT IN THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Summer nights in Denver are filled with the sound of music. Take at least one — or two, or five — trips out to the awe-inspiring Red Rocks Amphitheatre, just 15 miles from downtown Denver, where the biggest names in music make frequent stops. This summer's lineup includes names like Ryan Adams, Umphrey's McGee, The Avett Brothers, Diana Krall, Sam Hunt and many more.
The Denver Botanic Gardens, a lush oasis located in the heart of The Mile High City, is home to a stellar summer concert series. The lawns surrounding the stage are general admission — bring a blanket or lawn chair along with a bottle of wine and a picnic dinner and enjoy great music in a fresh, fragrant setting. A little further south, Hudson Gardens in Littleton also fills the evening sky with music during its summer concert series. Sunday nights in June, July and August, the City Park Bandstand and Pavilion turns into a swinging, open-air jazz club, as music lovers of all ages congregate for City Park Jazz. Bring a blanket or folding chair — but be prepared to spend plenty of time on your feet, too. City Park Jazz encourages dancing! Did we mention these concerts are free?
MOVIES UNDER THE STARS
Spend a warm summer night in The Mile High City enjoying a great movie under the stars. Red Rocks Amphitheatre's Film On The Rocks Series pairs a classic flick with comedians, bands and a festive atmosphere. Downtown Denver's lovely Skyline Park (on the corner of 16th and Arapahoe) hosts Mile High Movies, focusing mainly on family-friendly films. Movies begin at dusk. You can even bike to a movie at Civic Center Bike-In Movies Series, see an outdoor movie for a good cause at the Historic Elitch Theatre Film Festival or take part in the family-friendly Monday Movie Madness at Infinity Park in Glendale. Check out this year's lineups.
AL FRESCO DENVER DINING
Take in the sunset and the fresh night air on one of the many open-air restaurant patios in Denver. Try some people-watching at the Paramount Café on the 16th Street Mall, take in the skyline from LoHi at Linger, or enjoy a delectable meal on Tamayo's roof-top patio, perched atop Larimer Square. And don't forget the Tavern Downtown, whose three roof-top decks overlooking Coors Field won a spot on Playboy Magazine's "Top 10 Best Rooftops in America," as well as accolades from Sunset Magazine for "Best Rooftop Patio in the West."
TURN UP THE HEAT WITH A ROMANTIC RENDEZVOUS
Denver's got everything a couple needs for that perfect summer evening — spectacular mountain views, cozy lounges, fine dining and luxury honeymoon suites. If you and your darling find yourselves in the mood for dancing, there are plenty of hopping dance floors in the city, including the Cowboy Lounge. And any tour of Denver's nighttime scene requires a trip to the South of Colfax Nightlife District where you'll pay a single entrance fee and enjoy four different nightclub venues, all within walking distance of each other.
