Summer Concert Season

Summertime in Denver is all about the outdoors. Denverites spend these months making the most of the plentiful sunshine and copious fresh air — hiking, biking and enjoying a host of live music extravaganzas. 

Red Rocks Summer Concert Series 

WHEN: June–September, 2016
WHERE: Red Rocks Amphitheatre 

No summer in Denver is complete without at least one — or two, or five — trips to the awe-inspiring Red Rocks Amphitheatre, just 15 miles from Downtown Denver. More than 70 million years in the making, the 9,450-seat venue is flanked by enormous 300-foot red sandstone rock formations and always boasts a star-studded musical schedule.

Elway's Taste & Tunes Summer Music Series

WHEN: Wednesdays, mid June–mid August, 2016 (Backyard opens at 5 p.m., music runs from 5:30–9:30 p.m.)
WHERE: Elway's Cherry Creek

Head to the Backyard at Elway's Cherry Creek every Wednesday this summer for Elway's Summer Music Series. Enjoy free music from some fantastic bands (including some of the area's best tribute bands), cocktails, the restaurant's signature menu and beautiful Colorado evenings. DJ Tanner spins from 5:30–6:30 p.m. and bands start at 7 p.m.

Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park Summer Concerts

WHEN: June–August, 2016
WHERE: Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park

Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park is not only a great, family-friendly attraction with roller coasters, water slides and more — it also offers an excellent concert series. All concerts are free with admission to the park.

Denver Botanic Gardens Summer Concert Series

WHEN: June–August, 2016
WHERE: Denver Botanic Gardens 

Denver Botanic Gardens is a lush oasis located in the heart of The Mile High City, with hundreds of rare and lovely species of plants populating the grounds. But it's also home to a stellar summer concert series. The lawns surrounding the stage are general admission, so bring a blanket or lawn chair along with a bottle of wine and a picnic dinner and enjoy the great music in an unparalleled setting. Word to the wise: virtually all Botanic Gardens concerts sell out — so get your tickets early!

Hudson Gardens Summer Concert Series

WHEN: Sundays, June–September, 2016
WHERE: Hudson Gardens & Event Center

Hudson Gardens is known for presenting some of the best touring artists in the world in a picturesque natural setting, and the 2016 season is shaping up to be one of the most dynamic and exciting yet! All seating is general admission, so bring a blanket or low-back chair. You can bring your own food, or visit one of the many local food trucks that will be dishing out eats during the shows.

City Park Jazz

WHEN: Every Sunday night, June–July, 2016, starting at 6 p.m.
WHERE: City Park, 17th Ave. and Colorado Blvd. 

Every Sunday night in June and July, the City Park Bandstand and Pavilion turns into a swinging, open-air jazz club as music lovers of all ages congregate for City Park Jazz. Bring a blanket or folding chair — but be prepared to spend plenty of time on your feet, too. City Park Jazz encourages dancing! Did we mention these concerts are free?

Clyfford Still Summer Lawn Concerts

WHEN: Every third Friday, June–August
WHERE: Clyfford Still Museum  

Clyfford Still Museum and the Swallow Hill Music Association are pleased to present three free summer lawn concerts in the Museum’s forecourt. Bring a blanket and picnic, or enjoy ice cream sandwiches from Peteybird, local microbrews from Baere Brewing Co. and gourmet sausages from Biker Jim's. The concerts begin at 5:30 p.m.

Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre Summer Concerts

WHEN: April–September, 2016
WHERE: Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre

Grab a blanket and take a seat on the lawn or buy a reserved seat at this beautiful venue just south of Denver in Greenwood Village. Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre has a variety of acts coming up this spring and summer.

Denver Post Underground Music Showcase (UMS)

WHEN: July 28–31, 2016
WHERE: Various Denver venues

It's a block party that rocks. The Denver Post Underground Music Showcase, Denver's very own version of Austin's South By Southwest Music Festival, takes over the streets of S. Broadway for a multi-night extravaganza of the cream of Denver's underground music scene. Celebrating its 16th anniversary this year, the UMS promises to be bigger, better and more fun than ever in 2016. This year’s incarnation showcases over 400 local and national acts across four days in nearly 20 venues, including Poliça, Thee Oh Sees, Allah-Las, Lee Fields & The Expressions, San Fermin, The Bright Light Social Hour, The Yawpers and hundreds more. 

Bass Center 2016

WHEN: July 29–30, 2016
WHERE: Dick's Sporting Goods Park

If Bassnectar is behind it, you know it has to be good and that he'll be bringing along his dedicated fan base. Bass Center 2016 is a special two-day experience with a lineup that includes two extended sets by Bassnectar himself. The rest of the performers are Flux Pavilion, Wu-Tang Clan, Flying Lotus, Porter Robinson, Lupe Fiasco, AlunaGeorge, Minnesota, G Jones, Dabin and Thriftworks.

Music at the Bottom Rock Bottom Brewery Patio Concerts

WHEN: Fridays, June–July, 2016
WHERE: Rock Bottom Brewery on 16th Street Mall 

The Rock Bottom Brewery is located right on the 16th Street Mall (between Champa and Lawrence Sts.) and offers a weekly happy hour concert series on its sunny patio. Sit back with one of the brewery's handcrafted ales and enjoy some great live music! Doors open at 5 p.m. and bands take to the stage at 7 p.m.

Phish

WHEN: September 2–4, 2016
WHERE: Dick's Sporting Goods Park 

Denver's Dick's Sporting Goods Park has got one of the most popular jam bands in the world for three nights this summer. Phish has earned a wildly devoted following over the past 20 years, thanks to the guitar heroics of Trey Anastasio, an always-unpredictable live show and unparalleled instrumental interplay. 

Riot Fest

WHEN: September 2–4, 2016 
WHERE: National Western Complex

The eclectic Riot Fest brings an amazing weekend full of live music to Denver's National Western Complex. Given the venue, it's not too surprising that there's also a rodeo theme and BBQ cook-off. It's the perfect way to say goodbye to the summer concert season in The Mile High City.
