With 46 miles of urban trails, the Central Park, Lowry and Northfield neighborhoods are a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown.
The neighborhood is home to many parks and open spaces, including Central Park, a haven for dogs, joggers, cyclists and rollerbladers. Biking and hiking paths connect the area to the 17,000-acre Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, where city gives way to prairie. It's not unusual to spot golden eagles soaring in the skies above and bison wandering the wilderness.
Central Park's skate park, community pools, gardens and parks also beckon outdoor lovers. After enjoying the outdoors, relax and take advantage of the shopping and dining at The Shops at Northfield, Stanley Marketplace or Hangar 2.
You won't go thirsty in Aurora. Once you become a fan of Dry Dock Brewing Company, you'll have two locations to choose from. Aurora’s first brewery, Dry Dock’s South Dock is a trailblazer for fruit beers (including the wildly popular Apricot Blonde Ale) and the brewery-with-tasting room model now found across Colorado and the nation. The North Dock features Dry Dock’s production brewery, a tasting room and a unique form of beery recreation: an 18-hole disc golf course where beer lovers can toss back Dry Dock creations and toss discs while soaking up the sunshine and novel fun.
FlyteCo Tower is something that you can't miss — as it stands tall over the plains in a former air traffic control tower — and is something you shouldn't miss due to its quality beers and indoor fun. Danico Brewing Company, meanwhile, provides something for everyone, from a variety of small-batch beer and nonalcoholic drinks to abundant indoor/outdoor seating with a family-friendly vibe.
Tower Tap & Grill is all about local: produce, chicken, Colorado Angus beef and craft beers. Plus, they have 17 high-definition TVs where you can watch your favorite sports. Located in the Shops at Northfield, It's Brothers Bar & Grill – Central Park is a modernized throwback to the old Midwestern corner tavern, featuring menu items like their famous hand-battered Wisconsin cheese curds. Would you like beer with that? They have more than 30 drafts on tap. Another remnant of the neighborhood's aviation history, Hangar 2 in Lowry is a collection of locally-owned restaurants and shops situated in and around a historic Air Force hangar. Near Bluff Lake Nature Center, Cattivella is an upscale Italian eatery with a bar and patio.
Stanley Marketplace was once an aviation factory on the old international airport's site. It has been turned into a community hub with food shops, restaurants, retail stores and parkland with striking hints to its past. The pedestrian streets and fountains at The Shops at Northfield offer a relaxed, outdoor shopping experience, an 18-screen movie theater and sidewalk cafes.
With an extensive collection of aircraft, aviation and military exhibits, Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum offers a one-of-a-kind look into the history of the servicemen and women who served at Lowry Air Force Base. Catch a game at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, an 18,000-seat stadium and state-of-the-art soccer field that hosts blockbuster concerts and is home to the Colorado Rapids.
You don't have to go far to explore nature in all its splendor. Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge has 15,988 acres of open lakes, wetlands, grassland and woodlands that is home to more than 330 species of animals. Dogs are not allowed. Bluff Lake Nature Center is another wildlife refuge that surrounds a lake. Sand Creek runs through the property. The center has a 1.5-mile loop, perfect for families, birdwatchers and joggers. The site is free for visitors, but they do not allow bikes, dogs or fishing in order to protect the wildlife.
With Food & Wine Magazine's Best New Chef, Caroline Glover, behind the wheel, Annette's wood-fired, seasonal, scratch-to-table fare is a must in Stanley Marketplace. Also check out Annette's sister restaurant Traveling Mercies.
Take a tour at the Leopold Bros. distillery, where their Spirits Education Team leads you through the story of distilling. Or, skip the tour and head straight to the tasting room where you can sample up to five different spirits.
From Fresh Markets to Beer Festivals and Concerts on the Green, Central Park never has a shortage of things to do!
Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum has lots of great events like Hops in the Hangar, Hauntings at the Hangar and Holidays at the Hangar.
