Short-term Rentals

Home sharing and short-term rentals are increasingly popular for visitors and Denver is no exception!

Whether you use Airbnb, VRBO or one of many other services, you want the experience to be easy, affordable, memorable and safe. The City and County of Denver has approved and is licensing short-term rentals, here are a few things you need to know:

  • If you are visiting Denver and interested in renting a home, or part of a home, for fewer than 30 days, make sure that you rent from homeowners/hosts who are licensed by the City and County of Denver. A host’s license number should be prominently listed in the rental advertisement.

  • Licensing improves the rental experience by requiring hosts to provide a guidebook and to ensure the place you are renting has smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers.

  • Licensed short-term rental hosts also collect and pay the City’s Lodger’s Tax, so everyone staying at a short-term rental pays the same amount of taxes as they would for a traditional hotel.
