Pixelated: Sculpture by Mike Whiting
Pixelated explores the relationships between the natural world and the artificial world of digital media. Mike Whiting says “Gardens are in their own way virtual spaces—carefully created environments. The contrast of the sculptures’ geometric and manmade materials can seem at odds with the gardens, but they are connected in the dialogue about the re-presentation of nature.”

Whiting’s sculptures also represent the intersection of two distinct visual styles: 8-bit pixel graphics—which have enjoyed a recent resurgence in games like Minecraft—and minimalist sculpture. Technological limitations in early video games like Pac-Man and Space Invaders reduced the graphics to simplified shapes, while the minimalist art movement created artworks that purposely lacked detail. Pixelated investigates the opposite intents of these two artistic approaches that result in a strikingly similar visual outcome.
1007 York St. Denver, CO America/North_Dakota/Center

Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini yoga focuses on awakening energy and unlocking our inner potential through breathing techniques, movements, stretching, meditation and mantra. This ancient and sacred practice is the oldest form of yoga and is an effective way to recharge and heal the body.

The class, taught by Yogi Bhajan, Ph.D., Master of Kundalini yoga, starts and ends with beautiful and ancient chants which open and calm the heart. A carefully planned sequence of postures, movements and breathing exercises, called a kriya, follows. The techniques stimulate the nervous and immune systems, while improving strength and flexibility. Participants may find a peace of mind and experience benefits including relief from back pain, stress, addiction, depression, insomnia and weight control.
1007 York St. Denver, CO America/North_Dakota/Center

Tibetan Singing Bowls Summertime Concert
The Denver Botanic Gardens will be hosting its semi-annual Tibetan Bowls Concert to celebrate the summer season. Come for the concert in Mitchell Hall and then plan to have a picnic dinner and sunset stroll through the Gardens after the concert. Admission to the Gardens is included in ticket price.

Denver Yoga instructors and sounds healer Chris Anne Coviello and Jason Coviello will be performing together to bring you this summer treat. The concert will begin with Jason playing his Hang Drum which is a very rare steel drum that is made by only two people in the world. Some say it sounds like a stringed instrument. Jason’s Hang Drum is tuned to the note that vibrationally corresponds to the heart chakra and when he plays the drum, he takes you on a heart-opening journey.

Jason and Chris Anne will then begin playing the singing bowls which are tuned to all the different musical notes that correspond to the different chakras, so they will balance the energy in the body. Since we are made up of mostly water, the vibrational effect will be a full body cellular massage.

Tibetan Singing Bowls have been used for thousands of years as instruments of healing.

So come and relax, close your eyes and drift into an altered state which facilitates the body to heal. Make sure you wear comfy clothes and bring a yoga mat or blanket so that you may lie down and let the bells carry away with them all that no longer serves you. As your chakra's re-align, breathe peace and enter the profound state of physical-mental and emotional well-being. Leave as if you were 10 lbs. lighter, because that is exactly what will happen as the pounds of stress, anxiety and fear melt from your system.

Price: $18, $15 members

Special Instructions: No children permitted in this program as it is a very quiet concert and any noise is distracting to other participants
1007 York St. Denver, CO America/North_Dakota/Center

Morning Hatha Yoga
Morning Hatha Yoga is an all-levels practice, open to everyone! Come unwind through gentle movement, stretching, pranayama and guided meditation. This class holds space to allow the student to gain strength and flexibility at their own pace with an emphasis on safety and alignment.

Instructor: Meredith Saver. What began as a physical journey for Meredith quickly grew into a mental and emotional one, too. Her yoga mat has always held space for her to “come home” in her body and in her heart. In this this often-challenging and ever-changing life, yoga serves as her “drishti”- her external point of focus that draws awareness inward. In 2015 Meredith completed 500 hours of yoga teacher training at the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica with Don and Amba Stapleton. While she is drawn to many forms of yoga, Meredith’s Hatha vinyasa classes are a well-rounded, playful and intelligent blend of movement and meditation. As a teacher it is always her aim to create a safe learning environment so that anyone can show up to step on their mat and find their slice of “coming home.”
1007 York St. Denver, CO America/North_Dakota/Center

TajMo: The Taj Mahal and Keb' Mo' Band
"We wanted to do a real good record together, but we didn't want to do the record that everyone expected us to do," blues legend Taj Mahal says of TajMo, his historic collaboration with fellow true believer Keb' Mo'. "There wasn't a bunch of cryin' and ringin' hands, we just got together and it came together pretty naturally. I think it's a pretty upbeat, celebratory record, and it couldn't have come at a better time."

Indeed, TajMo, released on May 5, 2017 via Concord Records, marks a once-in-a-lifetime convergence of the talents of two unique American artists who've already built significant individual legacies that have consistently expanded and extended American blues traditions into astonishing new territory. The collaboration brings out the best in both artists, who merge their distinctive voices, personalities and guitar styles to create vibrant, immediate music that's firmly rooted in tradition yet ruled by a restless, spirited sense of adventure.
1007 York St. Denver, CO America/North_Dakota/Center

Workshop and Tour - From Field to Bouquet
This workshop begins with a tour of Red Daisy Farm in Brighton, Colorado, led by farmer-florist Meg McGuire. See the fields and high tunnels at her historical property where a wide array of annuals, perennials, dahlias, roses and other popular cut flowers thrive. McGuire discusses how she selects best varieties for growing in the Denver area, as well as colors and cultivars that are popular with her floral customers.

A relaxing picnic with box lunches and beverages follow the tour. The vintage home and garden shop in the barn is open during the lunch break,

After lunch, the group enjoys a hands-on floral design workshop with Debra Prinzing and Meg McGuire that uses Colorado-grown flowers from Red Daisy Farm and other local flower farms, with an American-made glass vase to take home. Discuss designing with seasonal flowers (including from your garden) using environmentally-friendly techniques, as well as how to care for your arrangement and extend its vase life. Leave inspired to continue the practice of cutting and arranging flowers as a gardener's regular practice.

Instructor: Meg McGuire and her husband, Terry Bauman, had their eyes on a charming early 20th century farmhouse in Brighton, just outside Denver. By the time they finally became the owners, it seemed as if the Red Daisy Farmhouse possessed them—but in a very good way. Red Daisy Farm is a flower farm supplying local DIY brides and floral designers. There is a huge barn filled with vintage and antique treasures—ideal for shabby chic, cottage decor, and people in search of architectural salvage! Meg and her sister Erin host barn sales and are also open by appointment. How perfect that you might find an elderly ceramic pitcher in the barn and then be able to take home bunches of dahlias, roses, lisianthus, zinnias, sunflowers or cosmos.

$95, $92 member, includes $50 for arrangement, vase as well as lunch at the farm
1007 York St. Denver, CO America/North_Dakota/Center
