Music in the Galleries: Chris “Citrus” Sauthoff
Named on of the ten best Denver guitarists by Westword in 2016, Citrus Sauthoff has been a professional musician since 1990. In recent years, he’s been on the road with George Clinton; traversing India to learn Hindustani classical music; and heading up his own acclaimed band. Sauthoff will play classical Hindustani music on the sitar.

Music in the Galleries is a series as exciting and eclectic as the Clyfford Still record collection that inspires it. If you share Still’s appreciation for music, join us for this live performance in the galleries to experience his work through both sight and sound. We are pleased to be partnering with the Friends of Chamber Music and Swallow Hill Music to bring you this series.
1250 Bannock St. Denver, CO America/North_Dakota/Center

Still & Art
At the time of his mammoth 1979 retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Clyfford Still provocatively declared, “My work is not influenced by anybody.” While many observers have regarded this view as merely typical of the artist’s notoriously unyielding singularity, in hindsight Still’s words ring true at a deeper level.

The concept of “influence” suggests external forces acting upon a passive mind. Still’s vision, however, was intensely active. His deep knowledge of world art history enabled him to “take and break” a wealth of images and ideas ranging from the distant to the recent past. Still & Art illustrates how he channeled these points of reference into his own intensely personal style.
1250 Bannock St. Denver, CO America/North_Dakota/Center

Join CSM staff in the galleries for this series of lively talks in which everyone participates.

*Registration required

This is a standing, informal program.
