Denver is home to no less than six professional sports teams that thrill sold-out crowds year-round. Basketball, baseball, football, soccer, lacrosse, hockey, rugby – Denver’s got it all, with some of the world’s best athletes on the rosters.
Denver's beloved Major League Baseball team, the Colorado Rockies play home games in the heart of downtown Denver at Coors Field, which offers the nostalgic feel of a classic ballpark mixed with state-of-the-art technology. The season runs from April to September. See the team's schedule.
The enormous Empower Field at Mile High is where the NFL's Denver Broncos call home. Here in Denver, being a Broncos fan isn't just a hobby - it's a way of life. The team has won three Super Bowls, including Super Bowl 50 with Peyton Manning as quarterback. On game days, you'll see the city awash in the team's trademark orange, blue and white colors. The team is still best known for its league-dominating heyday with Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway (who now owns two acclaimed Mile High City restaurants with two other locations in Colorado). The season runs from September to January.
The NBA's Denver Nuggets rule the court at Ball Arena in downtown Denver. With a roster that includes big-name veterans and exciting up-and-comers, the Nuggets are truly one of The Mile High City's most exciting teams, year after year. The season runs from October to June. See the Nuggets' schedule.
Ball Arena is also the home of Denver's beloved hockey team, the Colorado Avalanche — the "Avs" to fans. With a powerhouse starting lineup leading the way, the team's solid presence in the NHL standings, and their home games are always packed with Avs fans — some of the most devoted (and vocal!) hockey aficionados in the U.S. The season runs from September to April. See the team's schedule.
Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids are based at the sprawling, high-tech Dick's Sporting Goods Park, which opened its doors in 2007. The Rapids are a force to be reckoned with, considering the international roster, featuring players from France, England, Africa, Denmark and Uruguay, not to mention plenty of homegrown talent. The season runs from March to October. See the team's schedule.
Lacrosse may not be as popular a professional sport as those mentioned above - not yet at least. Thanks to the Colorado Mammoth, lacrosse is gaining a fervent following in The Mile High City. The team is part of the growing National Lacrosse League and plays home games at Ball Arena, where they often attract crowds rivaling those of the Nuggets and Avalanche. The Mammoth took home the league championship in 2006. The season runs from December to April. See the team's schedule.
Rugby is a sport more often identified with the United Kingdom, but Denver has had a pro ("super league") rugby club for more than 40 years (established in 1967). The Denver Barbarians (known as the Barbos) competes against 15 other club teams from all over the United States, the highest level of competitive rugby play in the country. Head to the new Dick's Sporting Goods Park to catch the club in all their rough-and-tumble glory. The season runs from February to May. See the Barbarians' schedule.
The American Raptors is a rugby club composed of athletes who crossed over from other sports like football, baseball and soccer. But these aren't just any athletes. They competed in their respective sports at the highest levels. See the club's schedule.
The Colorado Summit is a professional ultimate frisbee team that competes in the AUDL West Division. See the team's schedule.
A newcomer on the Denver sports scene, the Colorado Rapids 2 (founded in 2021) competes in the MLS Next Pro league. It's owned by the Colorado Rapids and operates as a reserve team for the parent club. See the team's schedule.
