Stimulating cultural attractions, appealing green space, countless restaurants and a hopping nightlife are all within walking distance when you begin to explore the area encompassing Golden Triangle Creative District, Capitol Hill and Colfax Avenue.
The hub of the Golden Triangle is Civic Center Park, a two-block oasis filled with flower gardens and wonderful Old West art. Start the morning by checking out Allen True's murals, located in the park's Greek Theatre, depicting pioneers in the wilderness, and the two Western-themed bronze statues, Bronco Buster and On the War Trail, by Denverite Alexander Phimister Proctor.
The Denver Public Library is home to an incredible array of books, periodicals and historic archives. It's also home to a great little café located at the east entrance to the building. Stop in here for a steaming cup of joe, a pastry or two and a pleasant, appropriately bookish atmosphere. Once you've got your caffeine fix, head out to start your Denver adventure.
The Golden Triangle Creative District is, true to its name, all about museums. Spend the morning exploring one or two — you've got plenty of options! The Denver Art Museum, the largest art museum between Kansas City and the West Coast, is a must-see, even if you've already been here — no visit is ever the same. Take some time to gawk at DAM's eye-popping Hamilton Building, designed by Daniel Libeskind, which has quickly become an art-world icon since it opened in 2006. Colorado history can be found nearby at the new, state-of-the-art History Colorado Center, the Center for Colorado Women’s History at Byers-Evans House Museum and the "unsinkable" Molly Brown House Museum. Also check out the wonderful Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art, featuring 20th century Colorado art by Vance Kirkland and others.
Feeling hungry? Head back to the Denver Art Museum, for a hearty meal at Palettes, where food preparation is an artful process. This Kevin Taylor Restaurant features contemporary American cuisine with fresh, flavorful and dynamic ingredients that are artfully prepared on canvases of fine china. Sit back in the spacious restaurant and enjoy an appetizer, full entree, or decadent dessert.
Throughout your day, the magnificent Colorado State Capitol Building will be looming over you. You can take a free tour of the Capitol Building, which covers the construction of this impressive piece of Colorado architecture, early Colorado history, the famous 24kt. gold dome and much more, including a stop at the Senate and House of Representatives' chambers. This is a popular tour, so reservations are recommended. Before you leave, be sure to get a photo of you and your family on the 13th step outside marked 5,280 — exactly one mile above sea level.
Find out who's playing at the Fillmore Auditorium a beloved Denver music venue on Colfax that hosts some of the biggest names in music. In the mood for dancing? In the South of Colfax Nightlife District you'll pay one admission price for several hot nightclub venues, each with more than enough drinks, dancing and DJs, all within walking distance of each other.
