SeriesFest Season 7 will take place June 24–July 11, 2021.
What Is SeriesFest?
SeriesFest is a festival celebrating the art of independent TV series creation — here in the birthplace of cable television. The event showcases the best new pilots from across the globe by both seasoned and emerging content creators in an international, juried competition. As the LA Times put it, SeriesFest aims "to give television its own Sundance."
The festival's screenings usually take place at the state-of-the-art Sie FilmCenter, with additional programs and events at a variety of Denver venues. However, due to COVID-19, this year's SeriesFest will take place online as a series of virtual events. While the festival will not be an in-person event this summer in Denver, the virtual festival programming will continue to serve the festival's mission to champion artists at the forefront of episodic storytelling. SeriesFest is currently pursuing expanded opportunities and partnerships that will provide exciting programming, conversations and networking events that bring together the SeriesFest community. SeriesFest is proud to once again partner with the Denver Film Society.
Season Seven: What We Know
The annual festival will include more than two weeks of must-stream events, including competition screenings, engaging panel discussions and one-of-a-kind workshops, as well as never-before-seen sneak peeks and television premieres that address this year’s theme: 'What’s Next?'. The SeriesFest international competition also continues this year with titles from creative voices from all over the world vying for the top prize in the categories of "Independent Pilot," "Digital Short Series," "Pitch-A-Thon," "Storytellers Initiative," "Collegiate Creator," "Late Night," "Pilots in Progress," "Smartphone" and "Podcast."
Season 7 kicks off on June 24 with an opening-night screening of the world premiere of Peacock Original docu-series, "Epstein’s Shadow: Ghislaine Maxwell." Joining the special-events lineup is a screening of the Peacock limited drama series based on the popular Wondery podcast, "Dr. Death," followed by a Q&A with series stars Joshua Jackson, Christian Slater, AnnaSophia Robb and executive producer Patrick Macmanus and director Maggie Kiley. Viewers will also enjoy a special screening of Amazon Prime Video’s "The Underground Railroad" with creative team members Joi McMillon, Onnalee Blank, Paul Kelly and Dottie Starling.
SeriesFest’s “Innovation Talks” will return this year with seasoned industry insiders like actors Jennifer Garner, Ann Dowd and Mark Duplass, along with YouTube’s Chief Business Officer Robert Kyncl, Wondery’s Hernan Lopez and ColorCreative’s Talitha Watkins talking candidly about how they navigated this past challenging year and how they are moving forward.
